The 26-room Chase Hotel was built in the 1940s and maintains much of its mid-century vibe. Staying here can feel vaguely like stepping back in time thanks to the venue's aesthetic, but the furniture is comfortable and well-maintained. Rooms are large and bright and most come with kitchenettes. Generally the action occurs around the hotel's outdoor saline pool, where guests congregate and sunbathe.
Scene
A mid-century vibe achieved through a mod aesthetic
The Chase Hotel masterfully combines modern furnishings with a mod aesthetic. The venue is bright and funky with saucer chairs and armless couches. A wall clock straight out of Mad Men sits above the brick fireplace. Off reception, there's a business center with a work station as well as a small seating area, a wall shelf lined with books, and a table stocked with a plethora of brochures advertising local activities. Perhaps in part due to this mid-century aesthetic, the hotel seems to draw a slightly older, retired crowd.
The main communal space, which all the guest rooms overlook, is the pool, which is large and aquamarine. Beyond the pool is a shuffleboard area, which further adds to the classic Palm Springs vibe.
Location
Conveniently located in downtown Palm Springs, close to the airport
Set between two residences, The Chase Hotel is in downtown Palm Springs with the San Jacinto Mountains rising up in the near distance. With Palm Springs shops and restaurants within walking distance, the hotel's convenient location makes it easy for guests to get around the neighborhood without a car. The hotel is less than a 10-minute drive west from Palm Springs International Airport and its air museum, and about two hours east of Los Angeles.
Rooms
Large and bright rooms, many with kitchenettes
Rooms at The Chase Hotel are large and bright with green walls, white bedding, and blonde-wood furniture and cabinetry. The design is simple and airy. Room options include units with double beds and king beds, along with one-bedroom suites. Many rooms include kitchenettes with two-burner stoves, microwaves, coffeemakers, and mini- or full-sized fridges. Bathrooms are sizable as well and stocked with Judith Jackson products, though some spaces could use updating.
Features
Free breakfast and a chlorine-free pool; pets welcome as well
Amenities at The Chase Hotel are on the limited side. The venue does offer a free continental breakfast that can be enjoyed either poolside or in a charming nook off the lobby. No other meals are served on the premises, but downtown Palm Springs is just a short walk away. Kitchenettes in many of the rooms allow some guests to prepare their own food. The pool area is simple but beautiful, with the mountains rising up from beyond the property, and the pool itself uses saline instead of chlorine -- a pleasant modern touch. The hotel is also pet-friendly, and free Wi-Fi and parking are available.
