Scene

Nostalgic couples taking in the '50s and '60s vintage atmosphere

Originally built in the 1930s, the Rendezvous still retains its late 1950s character when it underwent a major renovation. The architecture is fairly typical of Palm Springs: It's the meticulous nostalgic theme decor of this hotel built around a quadrangle courtyard that makes it stand out. The atmosphere is quiet and relaxed, with guests enjoying the poolside cocktails and personalized service.

Location

On a busy street, walking distance to downtown Palm Springs

Tinseltown legends Marilyn Monroe, Cary Grant, and Dinah Shore all owned homes in the area, but this stretch of North Indian Canyon Drive isn't that glamorous. The Palm Springs Rendezvous is on a busy street, but there's not so much traffic that noise becomes a problem, and it provides a convenient route into the nearby downtown area, which offers many restaurant options. All the attractions of this resort town are nearby, including such regional destinations as Joshua Tree National park (a 45-minute drive) and Coachella (a 35-minute drive). Palm Springs International Airport is a 10 minute drive, and it's two hours to Los Angeles.

Rooms

Clean and decked out in different themes

The 10 rooms are impeccably steeped in a variety of nostalgic themes, including the Rat Pack inspired Crooners Room; the Elvis tribute Shake, Rattle & Roll Room; and Pretty in Pink, a room Marilyn Monroe reportedly stayed in back in the day. Modern amenities, such as iPod docks, flat-screen TVs, and Wi-Fi, are included too. All the rooms offer California King beds with microfiber sheets, and designer toiletries. Most have whirlpool tubs, and several have louvered doors and windows.

Features

Full breakfast, free bicycles, and outdoor pool

The three-course breakfast is top-notch, and the hotel will accommodate special dietary needs, including those of vegan and gluten-free guests. The outdoor pool and small hot tub sit in a courtyard that is a well-kept remnant from the 1950s. There's plenty of lounge space for the guests, as well as a small seating area in the shade for the happy hour snacks and cocktails. As with most bed and breakfasts, there is no room service, but guests will find homemade goods, such as fresh baked cookies, left in their rooms each day. An on-site massage studio offers singles and couples massage. The Rendezvous also has a handful of period-appropriate bicycles to take out on the town.
