Bottom Line

Built in 2010, the mid-range Homewood Suites by Hilton
Oxnard/Camarillo is a family-friendly chain hotel just off Highway 101, between Oxnard and Camarillo and just over an hour’s drive north of Los Angeles. The 129
rooms are spacious and have solid amenities for long-term guests, including living rooms and
kitchenettes; some units have whirlpools or fireplaces.
The outdoor pool, hot tub, and basketball court are popular with families, while business travelers can make use of a 24-hour business center and

Scene

Mid-range chain hotel with trendy decor and the air of an apartment complex

The Homewood Suites by Hilton Oxnard/Camarillo was built
in 2010 and has the air of a trendy apartment complex rather than a hotel. The
cream building is accented by flowers, green grass, and palm trees in the
outdoor courtyard and pool area, and it has a slight Spanish mission style with
red-brick tiled roofs. In contrast, the interior has a chic gold-and-maroon
color scheme. In the lobby, there’s a maroon-and-gold floral carpet and maroon
loveseats set in front of a fireplace that partitions the lobby from the
breakfast room. The breakfast
room has dark wooden tables and chairs with cream-colored cushions, a few lime green
velour armchairs, and lovely canvases of beach scenes on the walls -- certainly more fashionable decor than one would expect from the chain. This property attracts families and business travelers alike, particularly long-term guests.

Location

Situated right off Highway 101, within driving distance of most attractions

The hotel is located just off the 101 freeway between
Oxnard and Camarillo, making it convenient for guests with cars. It’s an 18-minute drive to the Channel Islands Harbor and a
14-minute drive to McGrath State Beach. Camarillo Premium Outlets -- a 10-minute
drive -- offers a variety of stores for shopping. Golf enthusiasts may want to
check out the Spanish Hill Country Club, an eight-minute drive away. There are a
few restaurants within walking distance, though most of the surrounding streets
are peppered with medical centers, such as St. John’s Regional Medical Center. Traffic permitting, it's an hour and 20-minute drive to Los Angeles International Airport or an hour’s
drive to Burbank Bob Hope Airport.

Rooms

Sophisticated rooms with living rooms and kitchenettes; some with balconies or jetted tubs

The trendy elegance of the common
spaces at the Homewood continues into the rooms, which are full of bold colors such as lime-green walls; dark, sophisticated patterned carpet; and sleek
wooden furniture. Studio, One-, and Two-Bedroom Suites are available and come with free microwave popcorn packets and quality Neutrogena toiletries. Some even
have balconies with chairs and tables or fireplaces to cozy around. All
rooms have flat-screen TVs, living room areas, and kitchenettes with full-size refrigerators, microwaves, coffeemakers, dishwashers, and two-burner
stoves. Dishes and cookware are provided. The sleek but simple bathrooms
have shower/tub combos or walk-in showers; some suites have whirlpools or jetted
tubs. Rooms are quiet, particularly given their location right off the highway. But issues have been raised by past guests concerning housekeeping.

Features

Pool, hot tub, basketball court, fitness center, business center, and free breakfast buffet

The Homewood Suites has a number of outdoor amenities including a
heated pool and a hot tub, both situated in a well-equipped pool area with lounge chairs, an outdoor bathroom and shower, and a chic white wooden cabana
with brown woven furniture and turquoise cushions. Other outdoor features include a sleek grilling area with
two grills and a half-court basketball court. The fitness room has free weights and some cardio machines with TVs, but it's not open 24/7. Business travelers can
make use of a 24-hour business center and two meeting rooms; audiovisual equipment
is available for rent. The hotel also offers a free hot breakfast buffet and afternoon mixers with light meals and drinks during the week. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property, and there's free on-site parking and a grocery
shopping service.
