The 67-room, four-pearl Hostellerie
des Chateaux & Spa is a distinctively decorated, upscale boutique hotel in
a charming village along the Alsace Wine Route. It offers a fine-dining
restaurant, and room rates include access to its opulent spa. Rooms are
individually decorated and many have private balconies offering lovely countryside
views. Some suites offer private saunas as well. But room size, layout, and decor can
vary widely, even within specific categories, and spa treatments and the restaurant are expensive. Travelers may want to comparison shop as other upscale options exist that may offer better rates
at times, such as the Le Parc Hotel Restaurant & Spa in nearby Obernai.
Scene
Distinctive boutique hotel with a serene environment
The wow factor is evident in this stylish boutique hotel as guests
enter the lobby. A large skylight and avant-garde glass chandelier illuminate the white marble floors, distinctive wood reception desk, and adjacent wall mural
of a forest scene. Modern and traditional touches blend nicely throughout the
hotel. Rich wood paneling is utilized extensively on walls and ceilings,
including in the formal, fine-dining restaurant that surrounds guests with
ornately carved wood, crimson patterned carpeting, fine art, and stained glass.
It’s an intimate environment, as is the casual bistro filled with vibrant fuchsia
and purple colors and a lacquered-wood V-shaped bar. Other spaces have stone
columns and exposed beams, revealing the property’s 17th-century
origins. The spa is opulent and immaculate with wood paneling, terrazzo
flooring, mood lighting, and a large outdoor patio fringed and filled with elegant greenery. This is a decidedly upscale
spa hotel where any visitor can enjoy its luxuries in a serene environment.
Location
In a quiet rural village along the Alsace Wine Route
The hotel is
located in the charming, small village of Ottrott at the foot of the picturesque
Vosges Mountains along the Alsace Wine Route. There are a few restaurants in the village within five minutes’ walk. Obernai, a historic village that
dates back to the Medieval era, is about a 10-minute drive away, and has a train
station. Local attractions include Mont Sainte-Odile and Pagan’s Wall, both
within a 15- to 25-minute drive. The historic fortified castle, Chateau Du
Haut-Koenigsbourg, is about a 40-minute drive, as are the noted Alsatian wine towns of Riquewihr and
Ribeauvillé. Colmar is about
a 45-minute drive, and Strasbourg’s international airport and main train
station are approximately 30 minutes away.
Rooms
Thoughtfully and individually decorated rooms in a wide range of sizes and configurations
Rooms come in several
categories and range in size from 215 (Classic) to 1,076 (Panoramique Suite)
square feet. They are individually configured and decorated, and can vary
widely in size, even within certain categories. Junior Suites, for example,
range between 387 and 485 square feet. Some rooms are decorated in a more
traditional way with dark wood furniture, patterned carpet and wallpaper, and
striped drapes and bedspreads. Other rooms feature a modern, chalet-like style
with extensive use of light natural wood for floors, furniture, and some walls
and ceilings. Whatever the style, rooms are thoughtfully decorated with quality
furnishings and generally offer plenty of space. Beds, which come in side-by-side
twins, queen, or king options, earn high marks from guests for their comfort. Rooms
have plenty of windows offering either a countryside or village view. Many
rooms have private balconies with furniture. Bathrooms vary widely as well but
are generally spacious and stylish, even in the smaller Classic and Deluxe
rooms. Marble or quality tile is used on floors, walls, and the large vanities, while some bathrooms have windows and twin-sink vanities, and others have distinctive, twin granite basins. Most feature walk-in showers with rainfall showerheads and glass doors,
and some suites have separate tubs. Most toilet areas are separated by doors, and all bathrooms have magnifying mirrors and hairdryers. All rooms have air-conditioning, minibars,
electronic safes, flat-screen TVs, robes, room service, and free Wi-Fi. But rooms do not include a coffee/tea kettle. Pets can be
accommodated in select rooms for a fee.

for groups. The hotel offers a breakfast buffet that’s not included in most
room rates, but some packages include breakfast. The bar has a cigar room that
sells premium cigars. There's meeting spaces for up to 200 people, and the
business center has Internet access and is open 24 hours. Access to the huge, full-service spa is included in room rates. The spa
