Best Western Plus Ottawa Downtown Suites

This hotel draws business and leisure travelers, including families with kids in tow who need the extra space. There's a modern lobby lounge, with platinum-gray velvet sofas and armchairs, contemporary lighting fixtures, and an attractive area rug, but it isn't a space where guests hang out. The sunny breakfast room has seating for more than 50 people, although it can still get crowded at peak times. There's an enclosed outdoor patio to handle overflow in warm weather, which is a nice perk. But guests don’t tend to congregate here -- or anyplace else in the hotel -- in the hotel once they’ve eaten their breakfast. 

This Best Western is technically located downtown, but it isn't within walking distance of the heart of the city, and to key attractions like Parliament Hill, Rideau Centre, and the Shaw Centre (formerly the Ottawa Convention Centre). The Canadian Museum of Nature, however, is a four-minute walk away. The immediate area is quiet, with limited vehicle and pedestrian traffic, but several restaurants and a pharmacy are less than a five-minute walk away. It takes approximately 15 minutes by car to reach Ottawa International Airport, and it's a 20-minute drive to Canadian Tire Centre, home of pro hockey’s Ottawa Senators. 

Units at Best Western Plus Ottawa Downtown Suites are comfortable, with a mix of contemporary and traditional decor. Floor-to-ceiling windows and light earth tones keep spaces bright, and they're are grounded by reddish-brown wood furniture with brass hardware. Bedding is all-white, with maroon and copper bed throws that add a dash of color. All units have small seating areas with upholstered armchairs, and kitchenettes that are equipped with mini-fridges, microwaves, coffeemakers, cookware, and dishes. There's also free tea and Seattle's Best coffee. Standard amenities include 42-inch flat-screen TVs, large desks with ergonomic chairs, laptop-size safes, and free Wi-Fi. Bathrooms have a similar look, and all have shower/tub combos, hairdryers, and toiletries. Executive Suites have whirlpool tubs. Deluxe One-Bedroom Suites offer separate living rooms with sleeper sofas. 

This hotel's top feature is its free hot breakfast buffet. The breakfast room can get crowded at peak times, but during warm months there's an outdoor patio with tables to ease the congestion. Everything from snacks to frozen entrees are available at the on-site convenience store, which has a microwave and also sells sundries. Another highlight is the rooftop fitness center and sauna. The gym is well-equipped with up-to-date Precor and Cybex cardio machines and free weights, but it's a bit cramped. There's also a business center with three computers and multiple printers, and the hotel’s five meeting rooms occupy a rooftop space that has an outdoor terrace with seating. Other features include a laundry room and valet dry cleaning and laundry services, free Wi-Fi throughout and newspapers in the lobby, but underground parking in the hotel's garage costs extra.
