Hectic morning breakfast scene
The mid-range Park Inn by Radisson Oslo is a three-minute walk to shops and restaurants on Karl Johans Gate. Its 118 basic but modern rooms are accented by bursts of color and come with flat-screen TVs, coffeemakers, and free Wi-Fi; some have small balconies with seating. Splashes of bright color also punctuate the sleek gray-and-white lobby and other common spaces, such as fire-engine red in the bar or lime green in the breakfast room. Six meeting rooms, PCs, and printers in the lobby are convenient for business travelers. While there's no on-site fitness center, the Park Inn has an arrangement with a nearby gym. Travelers who want an on-site fitness center should consider the Clarion Collection Hotel Bastion, though its rates tend to be higher.
Scene
Modern hotel with sleek decor and a business atmosphere
The Park Inn has unexciting curb appeal, but inside it's inviting and clean. The lobby's dark grays are a backdrop against which fun, bright colors pop. Red lamps hang over the shiny black bar, which shares its counter with the front desk. Oversize red leather chairs and stools beside floor-to-ceiling windows are in the bar lounge, which often accommodates the overflow breakfast crowd. White walls, gray room doors, and multi-colored carpeting create a modish, fun look in the hallways. The clientele is mostly couples on vacation, likely drawn by the hotel's proximity to Oslo's sights, but business travelers are frequent guests here too.
Location
Convenient location near Oslo Central Station, and south of Karl Johans Gate
The Park Inn by Radisson Oslo is tucked into a central area that’s two blocks from Karl Johans Gate, and near Parliament, shops, bars, and restaurants. This main thoroughfare extends to the Royal Palace (a 15-minute walk) and Central Station (a 10-minute walk). The hotel is next to a market on a side street that’s not incredibly busy, but when room windows are left open tram noises might disturb light sleepers. More restaurants are on the Stranden in Aker Brygge, which is 10 minutes away on foot. The National Theater is also just a seven-minute walk away. The subway trip to the Holmenkollen Ski Jump takes 40 minutes. Oslo Airport is 45 minutes by train or car.
Rooms
Basic, clean rooms with modern amenities; some with furnished balconies
Rooms have a fresh, clean look, with wooden floors or carpeting, reading lamps on light-wood headboards, red curtains, and mod chairs in the corners. Top-floor rooms have balconies with glass doors. There are two room types: Standard or Superior. Rooms are similar in size, amenities, and decor, but Superior Rooms have king-size beds (versus two twin beds or one queen) and a few extra perks like free pay-TV channels and newspapers. Every room has free Wi-Fi, writing desks, wardrobes, flat-screen TVs, coffeemakers, hairdryers, and irons and ironing boards. White-tiled bathrooms have narrow showers and a nice selection of toiletries. A buffet breakfast is included in the room rate. Accessible rooms are available.
Features
Well-equipped meeting rooms, a computer corner, breakfast room, bar and lounge, and a nearby gym
The hotel has six contemporary meeting rooms with modern audiovisual equipment, which are convenient for business travelers. The meeting rooms can fit up to 108 people, and include supplies and optional conference lunches. The RBG Bar in the lobby serves beer, wine, and cocktails in a chic, inviting atmosphere, and there two PC computers and two printers in the lounge. The RBG restaurant -- with large windows and modern furniture -- serves only breakfast (free for guests), and takeaway can be requested; it does not serve lunch or dinner, but sometimes holds conferences. There's no on-site fitness center, but the hotel has an agreement with a nearby gym. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property.
