Bottom Line

First opened in 2010, the 160-room St. Regis Osaka has quickly become one of the most famous luxury hotels in the city. Rooms have sophisticated decor with delicate Japanese details, upscale bathrooms with soaking tubs, and expansive city views through floor-to-ceiling windows. Personal butlers make each stay a breeze, offering top-notch services such as packing and unpacking, free morning coffee delivery, and free clothes pressing. With wonderful on-site amenities ranging from an exclusive spa to two excellent European-inspired restaurants, and a central location near high-end shopping and attractions, it’s hard to go wrong with the St. Regis. The Ritz-Carlton tends to be a bit pricier, and many prefer The St. Regis for its more modern decor.

Scene

Five-pearl hotel with sophisticated interiors and top-notch services

The five-pearl St. Regis Osaka occupies the top 16 floors of Honmachi Garden City, an imposing skyscraper overlooking the high-end shopping area of Midosuji. The entrance is discreet, with just a long brown roof protruding from the building’s white facade, and a few manicured bushes separating the sidewalk from the street. The ground-floor reception area is a stylish space with a small concierge desk and a cute library corner with two teal armchairs and dark wood shelves with traditional Japanese items. The lobby itself, however, is on the 12th floor, and features a more sophisticated style, with high ceilings, white floors, and walls decorated with large paintings plus a few seating areas along the windows. An elegant living room with a fireplace, comfy couches, and a thick beige carpet with floral designs offers additional seating around the corner from the main lobby. Large floor-to-ceiling windows offer views of a tranquil Zen-style garden with a few tables and chairs where guest can enjoy a drink or a small bite. Aside from the St. Regis’ signature Bloody Mary, the lobby bar offers a wide array of other cocktails in a gorgeous lounge with turquoise and brown decor, a fireplace, and leather chairs. This property attracts sophisticated leisure travelers and business travelers with its long list of amenities and emphasis on service.

Location

In central Osaka near public transport, major attractions, and high-end shopping

This hotel is located right off Exit 7 of the Hommachi subway station, and directly overlooking Midosuji Avenue, known as the Champs Elysees of Osaka. There are plenty of shops of all kinds nearby -- from exclusive designer boutiques to chain clothes stores -- as well as restaurants for all budgets. This location is convenient for business and leisure travelers alike, as it offers walking access to public transportation and major attractions, including the Osaka Castle and the Namba area, both within a 20-minute walk of the hotel. Other major sights, such as the Municipal Museum of Fine Arts, Shitenno-ji Temple, and the Osaka Aquarium can easily be reached by subway. This location is also convenient for travelers looking to explore nearby towns such as Kobe, Kyoto, and Nara, as trains depart from Osaka Station City, located an eight-minute subway ride away. Those taking the Shinkansen may want to note that bullet trains stop at Shin-Osaka Station instead, located five subway stops away. Osaka International Airport is a 20-minute drive away.

Rooms

Elegant rooms with subdued Japanese touches and upscale bathrooms

Rooms at the St. Regis Osaka are elegant and sophisticated, with a soft neutral palette and delicate silk accents. They're all spacious, and at 43 square meters (460 square feet), the standard rooms are identical in size to those at the Ritz-Carlton. Western and Japanese elements blend seamlessly here, creating a soothing atmosphere that feels warm and stylish. Kawashima silk accent walls with charming cherry blossom designs offer a beautiful backdrop to dark leather headboards and quality beds topped with thick duvets, high-count linens, and charming jade and gold throw pillows. Striking black closets with golden doors contain well-stocked minibars, free bottled water, espresso machines, traditional Japanese teapots, and a wide array of snacks. Additionally, all rooms feature large flat-screen TVs, DVD players, and electric curtains controlled from a bedside panel. One of the most unique in-room features is the Butler Box, a small cabinet that can be accessed from outside the room where the butler places requested items without having to disturb the guest. Bathrooms are spacious and upscale, with Remede toiletries, rain showers, and separate soaking tubs (some with gorgeous city views) equipped with small pillows and a built-in TV. Suites feature Sothys toiletries and a few have fireplaces. All rooms and suites have floor-to-ceiling windows and expansive city views. Wi-Fi is free throughout.

Features

Two restaurants, a bar, a spa, a fitness center, meeting space, and butlers

Rue d’Or is a stylish yet casual bistro serving French cuisine on the ground level. It offers three separate dining areas, including a terrace with Hommachi-Dori Street views; a main dining room with red accents, wooden floors, and huge windows; and a more intimate section on an upper floor. Breakfast is served daily at La Veduta, a casual Northern Italian restaurant on the 12th floor. The St. Regis Bar has a sexy, elegant vibe and serves great cocktails, including the brand’s signature Bloody Mary. It also offers outdoor seating in a quiet garden. The spa has a varied treatments menu, a relaxing atmosphere, and a salon area, but lacks an onsen, saunas, and steam baths. The fitness center is open 24/7 and offers a few cardio and strength-training machines in a bright space with large windows and sleek wood floors. Sportswear rental is also available. The hotel features six elegant meeting rooms with high-tech audiovisual equipment, secretarial services, and a 24-hour business center. On arrival, each room at the St. Regis is assigned a butler who will offer an in-room welcome drink and daily morning coffee. Butlers can also pack and unpack suitcases on request, deliver items to the room, or answer any questions the guest may have. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout and the hotel can arrange airport transfer services for a fee.
