This small, retro budget hotel, renovated in 2012, offers inexpensive beachfront accommodations, and is a short drive to the attractions of Daytona Beach. The 39 homey rooms have lovely wooden furniture and kitchenettes, and those facing the ocean have balconies. Breakfast is free but limited, consisting of packaged pastries and coffee, and parking is a tight fit -- the hotel allows only one car per room in the adjoining lot. But overall, the OceanFront Inn is a good budget choice for a beach vacation. Travelers might also want to check out the more stylish Lotus Boutique Inn & Suites, which has similar rates.
Scene
Retro look with some updates, and a pleasant beachfront pool area
The bright-yellow retro-looking building gives the feeling of being on vacation in the 1950s or early ‘60s. There’s a clean but bare-bones reception area with a coffee station available on a nearby counter. The main gathering space is outside, by the large rectangular pool, which is surrounded by white plastic lounge chairs and tables and chairs with umbrellas, and a barbecue grill that guests can use. A shaded sundeck with a picnic table sits near the sandy beach, and there are more picnic tables on an adjoining patio. The OceanFront has a quiet, relaxed vibe that draws couples, groups of friends, and families.
Location
Directly on the beach, and a short drive to the Daytona Beach boardwalk
The hotel sits right on the beach on South Atlantic Avenue, or A1A, the main coastal strip in Ormond Beach, which is north of Daytona Beach and much quieter. South Atlantic Avenue is mostly lined with hotels and fast-food places, but there are restaurants within walking and driving distance. It’s a 10-minute drive to the Daytona Beach boardwalk, which has an amusement park, a 20-minute drive to the Daytona International Speedway, and a 25-minute drive to Daytona Beach International Airport.
Rooms
Motel-style, homey rooms; some with kitchenettes
The OceanFront's 39 rooms are motel-style, with access from the outside. Decor is homey, with white-beamed ceilings, beige tile floors, and light colored wood headboards, nightstands, armoires, and desks with lovely carved accents. Bathrooms have small dark-wood vanities and curtained shower/tub combos. All rooms have flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, coffeemakers, microwaves, sinks, irons and ironing boards, safes, and hairdryers. Some rooms have small kitchenettes, which add electric burners and small sinks.
Features
Free limited breakfast, pool and barbecue area by the beach
The hotel provides a free breakfast of packaged pastries and coffee, which can be taken by the pool or on the outdoor patio. The large rectangular pool sits in front of the beach and is surrounded by white plastic lounge chairs, and there's a small area with white tables and chairs. A barbecue grill is available for guests to use. The property is a minute's walk to the beach, although swimming in the ocean is discouraged because of a large shipwreck and strong currents. But guests can sunbathe on the sand, and umbrella rentals are available from outside companies. Parking is free, but is limited to one car per room, and the lot is a tight fit. There is additional parking available across the street. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout.
