This 128-room, two-and-a-half-pearl Ramada Suites Orlando Airport is predictable for the chain. Rooms are all family-friendly
suites that are spacious, featuring living areas with kitchenettes and
sofa beds. Interiors are dated, though, and maintenance problems are frequent. The Lakeside Marriott down the road is slightly more modern and
offers a full-service restaurant and a pool bar for around the same price. But with freebies like a shuttle to the airport, parking, breakfast, fitness center, and
outdoor pool, the Ramada can be an adequate stop for overnight airport travelers
and families.
Scene
Standard Ramada chain with straightforward style
From the outside, this hotel is
the standard rectangular, dark yellow with red 1980s-style signage -- it's a look that sets the tone at this typical budget-friendly chain outpost. The surrounding area is full of greenery, with a lake and a walking path nearby. This is a hotel for those on the go, with most guests only staying here because of bargain deals on rates and the hotel's proximity to the airport. Common areas are modern and bright, but nothing spectacular. The lobby has dark floral curtains hanging on the windows and a lounge area with soft, comfortable couches. The outdoor pool is small but peaceful,
surrounded by tropical plants and shrubs and typically occupied by a handful of
guests lounging, tanning, or reading a book. Guests don't typically hang out at the hotel, though, as the Orlando area is packed with plenty to see and do. Guests here are typically families, business travelers, and couples.
Location
A short drive from the airport, near a lake and other chain hotels
The hotel is surrounded by greenery and shrubs, and there are a few other hotels within walking distance. There's a small lake just behind the hotel with a walking path around it. The area is quiet, although Orlando International Airport is just a five-minute drive or shuttle
ride away. There are a few chain restaurants nearby -- a Bonefish Grill, Hooters, and a steak house -- all less than a five-minute drive away, or about 15 minutes walking
from the hotel. Universal Theme Parks and SeaWorld are about a 20-minute drive
away, while Walt Disney World will take 25 minutes to reach by car.
Rooms
Spacious and dated suites with sofa beds and kitchenettes
Although rooms are virtually
identical across all categories -- with dark-red bed coverings, tired-looking striped carpet, floral-print sofa beds, and dark curtains -- though each is spacious and can accommodate a family. These aren't the most inspiring digs, and the outdated look and frequent maintenance issues detract from the budget-friendly experience. Each bedroom features either a pair of double beds or one king bed and a flat-screen
TV in a cabinet situated in the corner of the room, presumably so
those in the adjacent room (not separated by a door) can watch from
the sofa bed. Rooms also have large, executive-style desks and kitchenettes with
sinks, microwaves, mini-fridges, and coffeemakers. Bathrooms could use an update -- particularly the showerheads -- but the
sinks and vanities are conveniently separated in the main room area. Expect to hear noise from neighbors and the hallways as well since the walls here are thin.
Features
Freebies include airport shuttle, breakfast, parking, pool, and Wi-Fi
This Ramada hotel offers a free
shuttle to the airport (but not for pickups), free parking, and Wi-Fi access in rooms and
throughout the property. There is also a free buffet breakfast with a waffle
station, eggs, meats, cereal, yogurt, and pastry selection, but no proper restaurant for lunch or dinner. Guests have access to a
small outdoor pool and a small fitness room that lacks natural light, but has a limited variety of cardio and weight equipment. The meeting rooms are also a bit dark, but equipped with all necessary presentation machinery and screens. There's also a computer station should guests need it. A small convenience store near the
lobby sells snacks and toiletries.
