The Days Inn Orlando Airport Florida Mall might not be the best choice as the centerpiece of a full-blown Orlando vacation, but it's good value for a weekend or a night or two. With a bar and restaurant, a large, clean pool area, a business center, a free breakfast, and Wi-Fi throughout the property, it can fit the needs of business travelers or families passing through. The neighborhood is dodgy, though, and not one to walk through, especially after dark.
Scene
Renovated budget hotel with a few extras
After a renovation in 2012, this Days Inn set itself apart with a few amenities. While the overall ambience is unremarkable, the large pool area is pleasant, and like the rooms, lobby, business center, bar and restaurant, is kept clean. With a Colombian restaurant and bar on-site and a pool table, the hotel is a relaxing place to socialize.
Location
Off the highway, near the Florida Mall
Like others of its ilk, this Days Inn is located close to a major thoroughfare -- Orange Blossom Trail. While this puts it within a few minutes' drive to the airport and such popular spots as Walt Disney World and the Orange County Convention Center, not to mention the Florida Mall, walking anywhere is discouraged, unless it's just a quick dash to Burger King across the street or to the barber shop down the road.
Rooms
Basic but clean -- it fulfills the necessities
The rooms are basic and the only extra touch are the palm tree prints hanging in every room. The hotel added pale blue accent walls, dark wooden furniture, and fresh bedding after our visit, which adds some visual interest. Rooms are clean and feature new tile in the bathrooms, flat screen TVs, a coffeemakers, irons, shampoos, soaps, and entrance balconies that look out on the pool.
Features
Large pool, bar, and Colombian restaurant
Certainly not every Days Inn comes with its own Colombian restaurant. It might not be four stars but with a decent beer selection, reasonable prices for authentic dishes such as vegetable soup and carne asada, the bar and restaurant are a winning feature. The pool is large and safely fenced in. There is free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel, a small meeting area, and a workout room. Breakfast, a run-of-the-mill bagel and cereal setup, is free.
