Bottom Line

Bluegreen Fountains Resort is a huge three-and-a-half-pearl time-share spread out over 54 acres, a 12-minute drive from Walt Disney World. It features a whopping 569 two- and three-bedroom apartments, all with full kitchens and washer/dryers, for up to eight guests. The emphasis here is heavy on leisure, with three pools (one with a pair of waterslides), a huge game room, and all sorts of activities for all ages, from fitness classes to special activities for kids. However, guests really need a car, as there's not much within walking distance. Travelers may feel less isolated staying at Hilton Grand Vacations Suites on International Drive, a 10-minute walk from the Orlando Vineland Premium Outlets.

Scene

Family-friendly time-share leisure resort spread out over sprawling grounds, with a large lake at the back

Bluegreen Fountains Resort is an enormous timeshare property that spans around 54 acres. Apartments are spread out across 10 buildings, with a huge pool at one end of the resort and Lake Eve on the other end. At the entrance of the property is a sales office and a preview center, and be warned: the salespeople here lay heavy sales pitches on visitors. The lobby is housed in a separate clubhouse at the heart of the resort and features blue and beige-brown country-style decor, plus big windows with views out over the lake. The emphasis is on leisure, and the resort attracts families. There's a ton for kids to do, making the resort a decent option for families who don't want to spend every day (and every dollar) at the nearby theme parks.

Location

Southern Orlando location, drivable to Disney theme parks but not within walking distance of much of interest

This resort is located in the southern part of Orlando, just off International Drive South in an area dominated by resorts and time share properties, plus a few apartment buildings. The resort is right on its own lagoon and next to Lake Eve. There's not much within walking distance, except for a Benihana restaurant at the base of the resort. Guests with their own cars will find the location convenient, especially if they plan on heading to Walt Disney World, a 12-minute drive away. It's a 22-minute drive to Universal Studios, and getting to the Orlando International Airport takes about the same amount of time. Downtown Orlando can be reached in around a half-hour depending on traffic.

Rooms

Spacious apartments with fully furnished kitchens, washing machines and dryers, and furnished balconies

This resort offers a variety of apartment-style lodgings, ranging from Two-Bedroom Standards (1,034 square feet/96square meters) up to gigantic Tree-Bedroom Presidential Suites that clock in at around 2,725 square feet (253 square meters). Decor is fresh and bright with lovely light hardwood floors and matching furniture. Pale turquoise accent walls in the master bedrooms are paired with green easy chairs and ottomans, and bright open-plan living/dining rooms feature soft lighting, a mix of blue and beige decor, and tables and chairs. The kitchens are particularly fantastic, with all the cutlery and cookware guests could need plus chrome microwaves and ovens, coffeemakers, flat stoves, and huge refrigerators. Washing machines and dryers come standard, and are housed in separate utility cabinets. Bathrooms are contrastingly simple, with shower/tub combos and black granite vanities, but they have plenty of drawer and cabinet space for storage and toiletries and hairdryers are provided. Furnished balconies with patio tables are a nice touch, and many have great lake views.

Features

Huge selection of amenities, with multiple pools, bars, and restaurants and tons of activities for all ages

This resort offers a ton of leisure amenities, making it easy for guests to get more or less everything they need without having to venture off the property. The main club house building hosts the bulk of the hotel's amenities, including the lobby, where there's a market serving Starbucks coffee, frozen yogurt, and grab-and-go items and a pizza joint. This building also has a lovely fitness center with cardio equipment and free weights -- unfortunately, it's not open 24/7, but it does stay open well into the evening. Other facilities in this part of the hotel include a game room with an enormous arcade including driving games and foosball, plus an out-of-place business corner with a free printer. At the base of the clubhouse is the Water's Edge infinity pool, an indoor/outdoor pool with food and drinks available from Splash Pool Bar & Grill. At the center of the resort is Wakoola Springs, a huge leisure complex featuring an enormous outdoor lagoon pool complete with a pair of twin dueling waterslides. There's also a splash pool and cabanas, and pool toys are available for rent. While the hotel lacks a spa, there is a massage pavilion right by the pool and hair braiding services are offered. This section of the resort is also home to Wakoola Grill, which offers burgers, sandwiches, and all sorts of cocktails. A third section of the resort, Fun Side, features a quiet Zen Pool along with a fire pit and a play area for kids. Other amenities include a half-mile-long exercise trail that weaves throughout the resort, a couple of fishing docks right on Lake Eve, basketball courts, and a handful of outdoor barbecue grills. Bluegreen offers a lot of activities throughout the week, from aqua fitness classes to cornhole tournaments to karaoke nights. There's also a kids' night with a pizza party held every Tuesday where parents can leave their children for the evening. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property and there's lots of free on-site parking.
