The Wayside is a no-frills, motel-style property with exterior hallways and an attractive partial stone facade. Decor is generic but cheerful, with a small coffee and tea station and a jar of chocolate chip cookies in the reception area. This isn't the kind of place where guests come to socialize -- as such, there's not much in the way of common space beyond the pool, and little ambience. Pleasant and basic, the Wayside Inn draws mainly couples and families.

The Wayside Inn is located at the southern end of Cannon Beach, across from Tolovana Beach State Park, which can be reached in a few minutes by walking across the parking lot. There are other hotels and a couple of restaurants nearby, and it's about a five-minute drive to the center of town, where most of Cannon Beach’s shops and restaurants are located. The iconic Haystack Rock is about a 20-minute walk from the hotel, or five minutes by car. There's plenty of other natural gems in the area in the form of state parks, including Hug Point (a five-minute drive south) and Oswald West State Park, a 10-minute drive. The closest major airport is all the way back in Portland, just under two hours east.
