Sandy Cove Inn

Sandy Cove Inn is a two-pearl hotel owned by the Tuckers, who live on-site and help promote a family-friendly atmosphere. A bright red “Sandy Cove Inn” sign hangs on the front of this two-floor motel-style property -- which doesn’t have an elevator -- with light-green painted staircases and red doors. The interiors have antique furnishings that create a comfy bed and breakfast vibe, although there aren’t any morning meals provided here. The small, quaint lobby has black wicker and comfy upholstered chairs, a chessboard table, and upright piano. The wooden front desk typically has a candy dish, and the staff is helpful with recommending nearby attractions or providing directions. Thanks to value prices and a location near the beach, this hotel is a good fit for any budget-minded leisure traveler. 

This hotel is in a residential area of south Seaside, about three blocks from the beach and promenade. Across the street is a market and a pub, but the more happening center of town on Broadway -- where there are a slew of restaurants, specialty shops, the Turnaround Market, and Seaside Carousel Mall -- is about a six-minute drive away. The Seaside Aquarium is also six minutes away by car. Next to the inn is the Seaside Golf Course Broadway, which has nine holes open to the public year-round. The Gearheart Ocean State Park and Cannon Beach are 10 to 15 minutes away by car, while Astoria is a 30-minute drive. The Portland International Airport is just over a 90-minute drive from the hotel, and Seattle can be reached in three hours and 30 minutes. 

Reflecting the owner’s experience as an antique dealer, comfy rooms are uniquely decorated with vintage decor and hand-painted designs. For example, there’s a Silver Screen Room with wooden movie theater seats, a Monopoly Room with symbols from the popular board game, and the Surf’s Up Room has beachy decor. Some rooms are pet-friendly for an additional fee. All rooms have either flat-screen or tube TVs, mini-fridges, and coffeemakers, while some also have microwaves and wet bars. Well-maintained bathrooms have shower/tub combos and toiletries, and hairdryers can be requested. The Jacuzzi Suite features a sitting area, kitchenette, whirlpool tub, and balcony with a tiny, distant view of the ocean. Large townhouses and condos can also be rented. Guests note that noise can travel through thin walls in some rooms and there are no elevators. Wi-Fi is free, but it can be slow. 

The Sandy Cove Inn has a lot of character, especially with its themed rooms, but there aren’t any amenities. The hotel doesn’t provide breakfast, but free coffee is served in the lobby and there's a small outdoor patio with dining tables and chairs. Guests can also borrow VHS movies from the lobby. There's free outdoor parking and free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel.
