Bottom Line

The 36-room Looking Glass Inn is a mid-range property overlooking Siletz Bay in Lincoln City’s historic Taft District. The hotel delivers VIP treatment to pooches, with doggy welcome baskets, treats, and a lawn with a fire hydrant. A picnic area offers a barbecue grill and crab cooking station, which is a nice perk since there’s no on-site restaurant, although the lobby does have a breakfast bar. One- and Two-Bedroom Suites and Studios have flat-screen TVs, and many have kitchens, fireplaces, ocean views. However, the walls are thin and the property is not on the beach, so ocean-facing rooms also get a view of the parking lot.

Scene

Three-pearl bayside property with dog-friendly perks and nearby beach access

The Looking Glass Inn is a bayside property on the southern end of Lincoln City overlooking Siletz Bay. It's ideal for tourists who want a low-key beach vacation, particularly if they are dog owners as the property pampers dogs, beginning at the front desk, where there’s a cookie jar filled with treats. The clean and modern lobby has a few lounge chairs along with dog beds, and welcome baskets for pooches include more treats, bowls, and blankets. There's even a lawn with a fire hydrant. The overall vine is relaxed and beachy. Weathered wooden siding covers the property’s three buildings, two- and three-story structures with white framed windows and white balconies.

Location

Bayside location in Lincoln City’s historic district, across from a popular chowder restaurant

Located in Lincoln City’s Taft District on the Oregon Coast, this inn sits across the street from the beach overlooking Siletz Bay, a popular crabbing area where sea lions can often be spotted. Mo’s restaurant, known for its clam chowder, is also across the street. Next door is the pink-painted Eleanor’s Undertow takeout. The area is a mix of residential homes, art galleries, and gift shops and the hotel sits right on 51st Street, which sees a lot of foot traffic. Sightseeing requires driving. Siletz Bay Park is a five-minute drive. The Drift Creek Covered Bridge is 30 minutes away, while the Tanger Factory Outlets are a 20-minute car trip. The North Lincoln County Historical Museum takes 25 minutes by car. Both Portland and Eugene are a two-hour drive away.

Rooms

Clean, homey rooms with DVD players,  many with fireplaces, kitchens, and bay views

Rooms at the Looking Glass are comfy and clean and feature earthy color schemes (white, tan, green, and red), wood furniture, and decorative life preservers marked “Looking Glass,” but overall decor lacks character. Rooms have queen or king beds, flat-screen TVs, DVD players (movie rentals are available in the lobby for a fee), coffeemakers, hairdryers, and fans, but no air-conditioning. Most One and Two-Bedroom Suites have sofa beds in the living rooms and gas fireplaces; many have kitchens with ovens/stoves, microwaves, large refrigerators or mini-fridges and toasters. Note that crab cooking is not allowed. Queen Studios have mini-fridges and microwaves. One-Bedroom Deluxe Suites have kitchenettes; some with ovens. Both the Two-Bedroom Fireplace Suites and the One-Bedroom Two Queen Suites have two bathrooms; the former are particularly popular with families and offer great ocean views. Whirlpool Suites -- the only type of room in which dogs are not allowed -- feature fluffy bathrobes, kitchenettes (without ovens), and balconies with ocean views. Bathrooms have either shower/tub combos or walk-in showers with wall-mounted toiletries.

Features

Breakfast bar, picnic area, and dog lawn, plus business corner, laundry room, and free Wi-Fi

The Looking Glass Inn doesn't have much common area space, but most guests spend their vacation at the beach across the street. A breakfast bar in the reception area offers a small continental selection included in room rates. There isn’t a dining lounge, but a counter offers stools and a large window that faces the bay. Outdoor dining is also available at a grassy picnic area with a table, a propane barbecue grill, and a brick crab-cooking station. Beach toys, buckets, and blankets can be borrowed free of charge at the front desk, where souvenirs are also for sale. There's also a small desk with a computer and a printer for guest use. The hotel also offers a coin-operated laundry room with a couple of machines, detergent, and an iron/ironing board. On-site parking is free, as is the norm on the Oregon coast, as is hotel-wide Wi-Fi.
