Bottom Line

Inn at the 5th is a four-pearl boutique hotel with 69 rooms and suites located right in downtown Eugene and overlooking the 5th Street Public Market. Rooms are modern and sleek with stylish decor and amenities like iPod docks and coffeemakers with Starbucks coffee, plus some have fireplaces, private balconies, and whirlpool tubs. On-site amenities include a board room, a large meeting room, business corners on every floor, and a modern fitness center. There are a couple of great places to eat and drink in the immediate vicinity, and the adjacent Marche offers room service. However, the hotel lacks free self-parking, and guests should be prepared to pay extra for valet service. Travelers looking for a hotel that includes a pool could try the Residence Inn Eugene Springfield, an all-suite property.

Scene

Modern, pet-friendly boutique hotel suitable for business and leisure travelers alike

Housed inside a five-story stucco building adjacent to the shops and restaurants of the upscale Fifth Street Market, the Inn at the 5th is a modern boutique property that attracts business travelers and leisure tourists alike, including travelers with small pets. Inside, the stylish lobby has low ceilings, yellowish walls, and modern furniture including a large red leather banquette, a tree stump coffee table, and a large blown-glass ceiling light in hues of amber and dappled red. The hallways have a funky patterned carpet reminiscent of cherry trees in bloom, and photographic nature prints hang on the walls alongside red and orange sconce lights, which match the lobby's mushroom-like light fixture. There's also an outdoor seating area with red metal patio chairs that sits outside in the shopping center area, right between the hotel and the adjacent NW Wine Bar.

Location

Downtown Eugene location near shops, restaurants, and University of Oregon campus

As easily gleaned by its name, the hotel is located on 5th Avenue, a 20-minute walk to the University of Oregon campus. It sits right next to the Fifth Street Public Market, a shopping area with stores selling everything from kitchenware to nightgowns along with plenty of restaurants, including a gourmet burger joint, a sushi place, and Marche & Le Bar, which provides room service to the hotel. The Oregon Country Fair grounds in the nearby town of Veneta are around half an hour away by car. It's a 15-minute drive to the Eugene Airport and getting to Portland takes about two hours.

Rooms

Contemporary rooms and suites with stylish, modern decor

The Inn at the 5th offers Deluxe and Balcony King Rooms, Superior Double Queens, and three different suites (Junior King, King Spa, and Crystal). Rooms are modern and sleek, with contemporary furnishings and a toned-down color palette of neutral shades enlivened by bold color accents like pops of art on the walls or colorful pillows and area rugs. Deluxe King Rooms are individually styled with different themes -- one has a library feel while another features African decorative arts. All rooms have mini-fridges, iPod docks, coffeemakers with Starbucks coffee, flat-screen TVs, safes, and pillow menus. Balcony King Rooms also offer private balconies. Bathrooms are modern and come with bathrobes, hairdryers, scales, Aveda toiletries, and double vanities with large lighted mirrors. All have roomy walk-in showers and both the King Spa Suite and the Crystal Suite also have whirlpool tubs.

Features

Room service, meeting spaces, fitness center, and expensive valet parking

Room service for breakfast, lunch, and dinner is provided by adjacent Marche Restaurant. There are business corners with computers and printers on every floor and Wi-Fi is free throughout the property. There are also two event spaces: the spacious Maple Room holding up to 80 people and the smaller Board Room, which seats eight. The fitness center is small, but equipped with modern cardio and weight-training equipment. Only valet parking is available and incurs an extra cost. However, packages that include parking and breakfast at Marche are available.
