FivePine Lodge & Spa is a hugely popular, upscale, wilderness resort at the edge of the Deschutes National Forest. The 32 charming rooms and cabins feature fireplaces, DVD players, and soaking tubs with waterfall faucets. On-site amenities include a seasonal outdoor swimming pool, multiple event spaces for meetings and weddings, a gift shop, free Wi-Fi, and a small business center. The hotel also sits right next to a brewery/restaurant, a luxury spa, and a local cinema, and there's an adjacent athletic club that guests can use free of charge. The Lodge at Suttle Lake, just up the highway, offers alternative accommodations, but it's not as charming or as up to date.
Scene
Woodsy forest property popular with vacationing families and conference-goers
The FivePine Lodge & Spa attracts conference and wedding attendees and lots of Oregon families and couples in search of a forested getaway, especially in the warmer summer months. The reception is in the main lodge, a three-story wood-and-stone building. Interiors are full of cozy, rustic charm, with a large stone fireplace in the lobby that's flanked by a pair of wooden staircases and plenty of wood furniture for lounging, including a few end tables topped with dragonfly Tiffany lamps. Outside, the enchanting grounds are well-maintained, with concrete footpaths and a meandering creek set amongst pine trees and modern wooden cabins.
Location
Forested location near spa, cinema, brewery-restaurant, and athletic club
FivePine Lodge & Spa is located in the forest near the town of Sisters in central Oregon. There's plenty to do within the immediate vicinity, and the hotel sits on a campus it shares with a number of local businesses, including Shibui Spa, Three Creeks Brewing, Sisters Athletic Club (which offers guests free access), and Sisters Movie House. Guests can also access the Peterson Ridge Trail -- good for hiking and mountain biking -- from right next to the resort. Black Butte Ranch is a 10-minute drive away, while Bend is 25 minutes. Portland takes about two and a half hours to reach by car.
Rooms
Charming rooms and cabins with wood furniture, soaking tubs, gas fireplaces, and DVD players
The hotel offers five room and cabin types, all of which have woodsy -- but not particularly rustic -- decor schemes, with hardwood floors, knotty wood tables and beds, beige walls, and neutral patterned rugs. All units are air-conditioned and come with large flat-screen TVs, DVD players, gas fireplaces, mini-fridges, coffeemakers, and soaking tubs with waterfall-style faucets. Caboose Cabins also have microwaves. Pet-friendly cabins are available with advanced notice. The Patio Lodge Suite sits on the ground floor of the main lodge and has a king bed and a back patio furnished with a couple of Adirondack chairs. However, noise from the lodge can be an issue during busy times. The Classic Cabins are a little roomier and also have king beds and private patios. Romance Cabins are at the back of the campus and are naturally the most romantic options available, with little extras such as sunken tile-and-stone soaking tubs in the main living area and couples' showers with two rainfall showerheads. Caboose Cabins are designed with families in mind and sleep up to four guests, while the Upper Townhouse Suite offers even more space and is spread over two floors on the upper lodge level, with a queen sofa bed on the main floor and an upstairs bedroom with a king bed.
Features
Free breakfast and evening beer/wine receptions, access to local athletic club, and lots of event space
A continental breakfast of yogurt, scones, cereal, and hard-boiled eggs (though no hot items) is included in room rates and there are free beer and wine receptions every evening. There are also four meeting rooms along with two bigger event spaces that when joined together can fit up to 250 guests. Wedding and elopement packages are available. Amenities include a gift shop and a small business corner with a printer and a PC, plus Wi-Fi is free throughout. Guests also get free access to the adjacent Sisters Athletic Club, which has a steam room, hot tub, classes, and exercise equipment, and there's an outdoor swimming pool open in the summer months. The hotel has cruiser bicycles that guests can borrow free of charge in the summer months, and mountain bikes are available for rent (also only in the summer). Equipment for playing Badminton, croquet, and bocce ball is also available for free during the summer. Books, board games, and DVDs are available to borrow throughout the year, and the hotel offers discounted movie tickets for the adjacent Sisters Movie House.
