Best Western Inn at the Rogue

The Inn at the Rogue doesn't have much to distinguish it from any other roadside Best Western, and the simple exteriors make way to an equally plain lobby with tile floors, a couple of solid rugs, and a plush sofa. The furniture is tasteful, however, and there are framed mirrors and a few potted palms that add a little beauty to the space. A staircase divides the lobby into two and there are a couple of brown easy chairs, a wooden fireplace, and a business corner with a large wooden desk on the far end. Guests tend to be passers-by en route between California and the Pacific Northwest, and families with children are welcome. 

The Best Western Inn at the Rogue is located right on the south banks of Rogue River in Grants Pass, Oregon. There are plenty of places to eat in the immediate vicinity, including American restaurants such as Cattleman's, Homestead, and Tarasco Mexican Restaurant -- all within a five-minute drive. The nearest airport is in Medford, a half-hour drive away. It's a 45-minute drive to Ashland and about an hour and a half by car to Crater Lake National Park. It's a four-hour drive to Portland, traffic permitting. 

The 54 rooms and suites are simply outfitted with green patterned carpet, light painted furniture, generic wall paintings, and writing desks with USB ports. Bathrooms are equally simple, with shower/tub combos and separate granite vanity areas with large mirrors and plenty of counter space. Rooms have a good deal of amenities for a budget property, including flat-screen TVs with HBO, mini-fridges, microwaves, irons, hairdryers, and air-conditioning. Adjoining rooms are available and guests can request cribs at no extra charge. Rollaway beds can also be requested, for a fee. A number of suites are available, including a Jacuzzi Suite with a large hot tub in the main part of the room and a Master Suite, which features a wet bar with utensils and a bar area with barstools in the living room. The Executive King Suite also has a dining room area.

There's no restaurant on-site, but the hotel does provide a free continental breakfast with hot and cold items to all guests. Other features include a seasonal outdoor swimming pool with a small adjacent hot tub, but it lacks seating and is thus not conducive to lounging under the usually fleeting Oregon sun. There's also a tiny fitness center with a treadmill, an exercise bike, and a weight machine as well as an on-site coin-operated laundry facility with two washers and two dryers. Wi-Fi is free throughout, and the hotel has a small business center with a printer. The hotel's Zane Grey Meeting Room seats up to 20 guests, theater-style. There's also a gift shop with souvenirs, toys, and apparel. Parking is free in the outside lot in front of the hotel.
