With 454 rooms and meeting space galore, this upper-middle-range Hilton property caters to both business travelers and vacationing families drawn by its proximity to Disneyland and the Anaheim Convention Center. Business features like a stocked business center and 30,000 square feet of meeting rooms are impressive, while dining options are plentiful, and the pool and hot tub allow for a nice dip. Room decor is so-so and could use a refresh, but rooms are equipped with flat-screen TVs and coffeemakers, plus some have microwaves and mini-fridges. Wi-Fi costs a pesky fee, as does parking. A free shuttle to and from Disneyland is a nice perk, though by comparison, Hotel Menage has one too, plus a pool with views of Disney’s fireworks as well as free Wi-Fi and breakfast -- at a cheaper price.
Scene
Contemporary chain hotel attracting families and business travelers
With its proximity to Disneyland and the Anaheim Convention Center, the DoubleTree by Hilton Anaheim - Orange County attracts a mix of families and business travelers. It opened in 1985 for the Olympics and features contemporary -- though slightly dated -- decor. The grounds are filled with palm trees and greenery, and there's even a large, lovely koi pond that can be enjoyed from a furnished stone patio. Inside, the lobby is characterized by vast spaces and a warm color palette of orange, red, and brown textiles, wooden furniture, and potted plants. But the patterned carpet in the hallways could use a refresh. The restaurant has an intimate atmosphere, furnished with wooden tables and chairs, leather brown booths, and checkered floors, while the lobby lounge bar has a sports-bar vibe with flat-screen TVs around the bar and red leather chairs for seating.
Location
Close to shopping, the Anaheim Convention Center, Disneyland, and restaurants
Just off the Five Freeway, this hotel is conveniently located for guests with cars. Both the Anaheim Convention Center and Disneyland are about a 10-minute drive away, plus the hotel provides a free shuttle to and from the theme park. For those who want to shop, the Outlets at Orange are just a three-minute drive or a 10-minute walk from the property. Angel Stadium is a four-minute drive away. Beaches, such as Newport or Huntington, can be reached in about a half-hour by car. There are a few restaurants (mostly fast food) on surrounding streets, as well as a bus stop in front of the hotel. Los Angeles International Airport is about a 40-minute drive, but it can take over an hour, depending on traffic.
Rooms
Slightly dated decor, but modern amenities like flat-screen TVs, coffeemakers, and Wi-Fi (for a fee)
Decor in these rooms is warm and contemporary, though they’re on the edge of being dated. The orange-and-brown color scheme includes wavy-patterned brown carpeting, tangerine statement walls, white beds with coffee-hued bed skirts, and warm wooden furniture. Orange pleather armchairs and abstract artwork adorning the walls are typical of the DoubleTree brand. On the down side, some of the wooden furniture has nicks and scratches. Suites offer more space, with separate living rooms and pullout couches. Amenities include flat-screen TVs, desks, safes, coffeemakers, and air-conditioning, but Wi-Fi incurs a fee. Some rooms and suites also include microwaves and mini-fridges. Bathrooms have large granite sinks, shower/tub combos, hairdryers, and Aroma Actives toiletries. Note that noise from the streets and highway can be an issue in some rooms.
