Comfort Inn & Suites

Travelers pick the Comfort Inn (formerly Holiday Inn) for its great location and reasonable rates. There's little in the way of character here -- think tiled floors, cream walls, and faux-leather seating are every inch the chain hotel template, though the lobby has some personality thanks to exposed brick housing a fireplace next to hanging skis for decor. Amenities like an indoor pool and free breakfast are pros, but most guests spend their days exploring the area.

On a busy intersection just off Highway 26, the hotel's location isn't the most scenic, but it's practical. A vehicle is recommended here. Sunset Point Beach and Park are a five-minute drive, and it's seven minutes farther for year-round resort Blue Mountain. Scenic Caves Nature Adventures is 10 minutes away by car. Collingwood's main drag is a 21-minute walk or quick drive, but plenty of restaurants surround the hotel, alongside grocery stores, a Home Depot, and Walmart (all within a six-minute walk). A Tim Hortons and movie theater are just a few minutes away on foot. The world's longest freshwater stretch, Wasaga Beach, is a 26-minute drive. Toronto Pearson International Airport takes just under two hours to reach by car.

Rooms sport typical dated chain decor like striped or green patterned carpets, striped drapes, gold bedskirts, and cherry-wood furniture. Wall-mounted forest artwork give a nod to surrounding nature. Ranging from Standards to Suites, rooms are spacious, but some wear and tear is visible. Additionally, with nearby highways and on-site parking, views are uninspiring, and guests have complained of noise due to thin walls. Amenities include phones with free local calls, cable flat-screen TVs, coffeemakers, and desks with office chairs. Entry-level rooms lack mini-fridges, and none have safes. Ironing facilities, hairdryers, AC, and free Wi-Fi are provided. Upgraded rooms add pullout beds, microwaves, and mini-fridges. Suites have living rooms and dining areas, plus whirlpools in some. Straightforward bathrooms come with shower/tub combos and toiletries. Rooms can be fitted with cribs. 

Seating is fairly tight in the breakfast room, which is the most contemporary space at the property, but quality remains solid at the free morning buffet. Cooked eggs, sausages, and biscuits accompany cinnamon rolls and a pancake machine, plus cereals, pastries, yogurts, and fruit. Juice, tea, and coffee come standard, and the latter two are free 24/7. There are no meals aside from breakfast offered on-site, but several dining options are nearby. The indoor pool is on the tired side, with uneven flooring in parts, but it's heated, and an adjacent terrace with loungers, tables, and chairs offers an outdoor spot. With very few users, the gym's tiny size isn't too much of an issue, but equipment is limited to a few cardio machines. Coin-operate laundry machines are available, and a lobby computer and printer are free to use. Pets are not permitted. Parking is free, with spaces for RVs and trailers, and Wi-Fi is free throughout.
