The Canaves Oia Hotel is one of the most upscale and exclusive properties on Santorini Island -- with a price tag to match. The finish is immaculate and luxurious throughout, and the layout takes full advantage of the breathtaking sea-view panoramas. The suites are spacious with impeccable interiors and amenities, and the pool is also large by island standards. Private yachting will appeal to those who really want to push the boat out, though staying here you already will be.

Scene

Discreet and exclusive boutique in chic minimalist surrounds

Scene Canaves Oia Hotel

Founded on 17th century caverns carved out of the hillside, the Canaves Oia Hotel is luxurious and chic in every corner, from the discreet entrance to flawlessly whitewashed facades and pristine interiors. The immaculate, zinc-white reception area is furnished with minimalist contemporary furnishings and a polished marble floor, and the vibe is über-stylish, high-end, and exclusive. Public areas are kept to a minimum -- service is very personal and delivered to the room. Unsurprisingly, clientele comprises largely of those affluent enough to afford such seriously upscale accommodation -- the super rich and celebrities -- as well as the odd honeymooning couple who've splashed out for a once-in-a-lifetime romantic getaway.

Location

Stunning hillside location in northwest Santorini just off Oia's main thoroughfare

The Canaves Oia Hotel is set on the top of Oia's steeply sloping hillside with stunning views over the Aegean Sea on the northwest tip of Santorini Island. The entrance is located just off the main thoroughfare meaning relatively few stairs, unusual for hotels in this area. There are a couple beaches nearby, the pretty Ammoudi beach, about 20 minutes on foot, and the less attractive Baxedes beach a mile away. Getting to the island is a 45-minute flight from Athens, and Santorini Airport is then a 12-mile drive from the hotel.

Rooms

Immaculately finished suites with private sea-view terraces

Rooms Canaves Oia Hotel

Suites are immaculately finished with fresh minimal decor, polished marble flooring, and a blend of contemporary and traditional carved wood furnishings. Each extends to a private terrace area with seating and sun loungers and stunning views over the Aegean Sea. All expected high-end amenities are provided, including large flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi, while spacious bathrooms provide robes and luxury toiletries, however not all have tubs.

Features

Private dining and private yachting

Features Canaves Oia Hotel

The hotel's L-shaped swimming pool is one of the largest you'll find in the area (though still isn't huge) part of which goes under the hotel. The poolside terrace has sunbeds overlooking the impressive panorama as well as a bar and restaurant. Private dining is also available in the Petra Gourmet restaurant, which has only three tables. An excellent wine cellar is also on-site, and there are regular wine tastings. A range of spa treatments are available in-room, while those who want to really splash out can indulge in the private yachting experience.
