The family-run, blue-and-white Sea Hawk Motel sits about two blocks from the beach, about a 20- to 25-minute drive from the Boardwalk. The 60 rooms at this value property have balconies or patios, and efficiency units have full kitchens. While rooms are clean and spacious, they're dated, and some of the mattresses are ready for replacement. The outdoor pool offers plenty of seating on metal-and-plastic loungers, but it’s small and by the busy road. Free coffee is available in the reception area, and there’s a good selection of restaurants across the street. The Sea Hawk is a good choice for budget-conscious travelers, but those that want to be right by the bustling Boardwalk could consider the Sleep Inn & Suites.
Scene
Clean and family-friendly, with a retro -- or dated -- look
The Sea Hawk has a retro, or dated, look, depending on one's perspective. The exterior is bright blue and white, and the small reception area has a homey and beachy ambience, with cushioned wicker chairs, bright-blue walls, a white ceiling fan, and pots of coffee at the ready on a white buffet. The small pool sits by the busy main road, surrounded by bright-yellow and blue plastic chairs. The vibe is friendly, and families have been coming here for generations.
Location
Two blocks from the beach, far from the boardwalk
The Sea Hawk sits on the busy Coastal Highway, surrounded by other hotels and plenty of restaurants. It’s two blocks from the beach, without having to cross any busy streets. The Gold Coast Mall, which has restaurants and a movie theater, is a three-minute drive or a 10- to 15-minute walk. It’s a 20- to 25-minute drive to the Ocean City Boardwalk and a 15-minute drive north to Delaware’s Bethany Beach. The Ocean City Municipal Airport is 30 minutes away by car.
Rooms
Clean motel-style rooms and efficiencies, with dated decor
The 60 rooms at the Sea Hawk Motel include rooms with mini fridges, and efficiencies with kitchens that include microwaves, four-burner stoves with ovens, full-size refrigerators, pots and pans, cooking utensils, and dinnerware. Decor includes dated pink or green carpeting, plain wooden furniture, and fabric sofas, although all TVs are flat-screens. Tiled bathrooms have curtained shower/tub combos, with shampoo and body-wash dispensers. All rooms have patios or balconies with yellow-and-blue chairs, and small white plastic tables, although first-floor patios lack privacy. Rooms on the higher floors, removed from the pool and the road, are the quietest.
Features
Small outdoor pool, free coffee, and vending machines
