Scene

The adjacent beach is infinitely more beautiful than the Grand Hotel

The front of the Grand Hotel is semi-circular and stately; the back looks out on the Atlantic and the hotel pool. Inside, the florescent lights; tacky, fake palm trees; ugly carpeting; and stale décor found in the lobby and public areas don't exactly seem “grand,” but the space is clean and cheerful. The Grand Hotel has a casual, family-friendly beach hotel atmosphere. The place gets packed during popular vacation times with families and party-loving beachgoers. It also attracts business travelers, particularly given its array of conference rooms and meeting areas.Though the hotel does have a good amount of amenities, some could use a significant refresh. The indoor pool is dark and dingy; the restaurant décor is outdated and unappealing -- although the tables overlooking the ocean offer stunning seascape views. The best part of the Grand Hotel is the ocean and boardwalk right outside.

Location

Right on the boardwalk and in the center of the action

The Grand Hotel is perfect for vacationers who want to stay in the heart of all the action Ocean City has to offer. It is situated in a bustling area filled with hotels, condos, and shops. The hotel is located right on the main section of the boardwalk and adjacent to the beach. A jewelry store, coffee shop, pizzeria, ice cream parlor, and stores selling beach umbrellas and souvenirs are right outside the door. The area has a crowded, party atmosphere, so it’s not ideal for those seeking peace and quiet. The Grand Hotel is a seven-minute drive from the Jolly Roger at the Pier amusement park, home to the city’s landmark Ferris wheel. The Convention Center is five minutes away by car.

Rooms

Big rooms that could use serious makeovers

The rooms in the Grand Hotel are spacious and most have balconies. However, the balconies don’t offer much privacy and are furnished with plastic patio furniture. Rooms also have kitchenettes with mini-fridges and microwaves (those looking for a room with a full kitchen should check out Castle in the Sand). Many rooms feature ocean vistas (those on the higher floors have the most beautiful views). However, the furnishings are outdated and in need of major refurbishing. Other drawbacks include the peeling paint, the squeaky and uncomfortable beds, and the tiny bathrooms. The free Wi-Fi and flat-screen TVs are a great touch. The King Jacuzzi Rooms may appeal to couples.

Features

A pleasant outdoor pool, a full-service spa, and plenty of meeting space

The Grand Hotel’s second floor is home to an indoor and outdoor pool, a fitness center with various cardio and weight machines, and 10,000 square feet of meeting space (including the Grand Ballroom at its center). There is also a sauna and a spa that offers massages, facials, body treatments, and haircuts. Pool tables in the game room area are a nice touch. The restaurant offers gorgeous views of the ocean from its tables, but the food is unremarkable. Drinks are offered at a poolside bar during the warmer months. The hotel also includes laundry facilities and a coffee shop downstairs that sells drinks and snacks 24 hours a day.
