Hotel Nice Riviera

Nice, Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur, France

The Hotel Nice Riviera is an affordable, upper-mid-range hotel conveniently located in the heart of Nice -- within walking distance of the train station, airport, shopping district, old town, and the beach -- but feels a bit dated and impersonal in style. It has a pool, hot tub, small gym, and parking -- the latter of which is a rarity in Nice -- but the rooms are basic and could use some upgrading. The larger rooms do have private balconies, though. There's also a decent-sized meeting room for business travelers, but the hotel also attracts its share of tourists enjoying Nice's quaint charm and pebbled beaches. For a similarly priced hotel with more boutique charm, try the Excelsior Hotel.

2

Best Western Premier Hotel Roosevelt

Nice, Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur, France

The four-floor, 49-room Best Western Hotel Roosevelt is a contemporary mid-range property. While it doesn't have the nearby Boscolo Exedra's luxury or facilities like a pool, fitness center, and spa, the Roosevelt offers relatively affordable rates, a breakfast buffet (for a fee), and clean and surprisingly modern guest rooms with free Wi-Fi. Its location in the heart of Nice offers close proximity to the main train station, and it’s a short walk to Old Town, the beach, and the Promenade des Anglais.

Mercure Nice Promenade des Anglais

Nice, Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur, France

This sleek hotel's convenient and desirable location (steps from the beach) is its biggest draw, and attracts travelers of all kinds looking for a pleasant and affordable place to stay in between excursions and meetings. The 124 rooms are trendy and modernist, and many have impressive balconies with sea views, yet it is still reasonably priced for the location and facilities. For a similarly-priced hotel with sea views and balconies that also has a spa, restaurant, and large pool area, try the Hyatt Regency Nice Palais de la Mediterranee.

4

Ajoupa Apart’hotel Nice

Nice, Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur, France

The Ajoupa Apart'hotel is a well-located budget apartment-style hotel that's about a three-minute walk to the Place Massena. Its 32 apartments range from Single Studios to Two-Room Suites that can sleep up to four, and include kitchenettes, Nespresso coffeemakers (without pods), flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi, and housekeeping once a week. There's a front desk staffed through the early evening, with concierge services available. The hotel offers a continental breakfast for an extra fee, which guests can take in their rooms. Travelers not dead-set on apartment-style living might want to check out the nearby Nice Garden Hotel, a charming property with a garden but no in-room kitchenettes.

5

Nice Garden Hotel

Nice, Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur, France

The nine-room Nice Garden Hotel is a reasonably priced oasis in a 19th-century townhouse in central Nice, just a few blocks from the beach and the Promenade des Anglais, within walking distance of the historic quarter. As a guesthouse-style hotel, it has no snazzy amenities, but you'll get a homey experience with friendly owners and a central location from which to explore Nice's beach, museums, shops, and cafes. The main draw of the hotel is its lush garden, which all rooms overlook, a few have direct access. Decor is a bit dated and bathrooms are small. Expect to pay extra for breakfast.

6

Hotel Antares

Nice, Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur, France

Hotel Antares is a 40-room budget hostel that's about a two-minute walk to the main train station and about a 15-minute walk to the beach. Private and dorm-style rooms are basic but clean, with air-conditioning, ensuite bathrooms, linens, and towels. Perks include free breakfast, a communal kitchen, and a basement hangout spot that hosts frequent meet-and-greets with free wine and snacks. Travelers seeking more private but still budget-friendly rooms should check out the Hotel Trocadero around the corner.
