Pros
- Charming Spanish Colonial hotel with beautiful antiques and tiling
- Open-air courtyard with small, lovely swimming pool
- Rooms have wood-beamed ceilings; most have balconies or terraces
- Nice breakfast included in the rate
- Attractive restaurant and bar complex with lush outdoor courtyard
- Air-conditioning and free Wi-Fi
- Free passes to Pure Fitness Center
- Cable TV (though English channels are limited)
Bottom Line
This charming colonial-style hotel just off Central Park is one of Granada's best hotel options, providing boutique intimacy, a small courtyard swimming pool, and simple but tasty local food. The hotel building and the building housing the restaurant and bars are across the street from one another, and the simple yellow exteriors belie the loveliness found within. Antiques, potted plants, beautiful tiles, and rooms with wood-beamed ceilings (centered around the open-air courtyard) make the hotel feel like a hidden sanctuary. The historic ambiance is authentic: The building dates back to the 16th century. Just note that the bathrooms could use an upgrade, the tube TVs may have fuzzy reception (not to mention limited English channels), and there are few features besides the pool.

Location
On a relatively quiet street just off Central Park
La Gran Francia is located in two historic buildings (one housing the hotel rooms, one housing the restaurant and bars) just down the street from Central Park, the city's main hub.
Granada is one of Nicaragua's oldest cities, and it's full of Spanish Colonial charm -- expect historic churches, a large central plaza, and lively festivals throughout the year. It's also located right on the massive Lake Nicaragua, and visitors will find restaurants and bars along the waterfront as well as a pier where ferries depart to Ometepe, an island with two volcanic peaks. Nicaragua is still a poor country and it shows, but as tourism grows here, the city should see more development.
- 1-minute walk (or less) to Central Park
- 4-minute walk to Calle La Calzada, which is lined with restaurants and bars
- 5-minute walk to La Merced Church (the bell tower has panoramic views of the city)
- 13-minute walk to Lake Nicaragua waterfront and pier (there's also a dirty beach)
- 25-minute drive to Mombacho Volcano

In honor of the 4th of July tomorrow, we thought it only appropriate to share some lovely fireworks with you.
