If you want to be in the middle of it all in Manhattan, you can’t beat the Tempo Times Square. Opened in August 2023, this hotel is Hilton’s launch of its new lifestyle brand, Tempo. Designed for the health-conscious traveler, Tempo offers a place to recover from the fast-paced city that’s right outside its door, with rooms designed for sleep, Peloton bikes in some rooms, smart amenities, and wellness-focused dining.
Rooms are spacious for Manhattan, but the hotel recognizes that most visitors will spend most of their time exploring New York, so dining options are toned down and designed to be grab-and-go.
The street-level entrance is instantly visible from Times Square. Still, guests must take an elevator upon arrival to the 11th-floor sky lobby before catching a second elevator to the guestrooms. Once ensconced in their rooms, thanks to light-blocking curtains and soundproofed windows, guests can block out the city and focus on rest or open up the shades to soak it all in.
Scene
A wellness oasis in busy Times Square
If you were to spend the day people-watching out of your Times Square view room at the Hilton Tempo Times Square, you could see over 400,000 people pass by below your window. Located on the Western Hemisphere’s busiest corner, the Tempo embodies the “city that never sleeps” spirit of New York.
With all of that hustle and bustle just outside the door, the hotel is a surprisingly quiet oasis designed for travelers looking to add some wellness and recovery to their city trip. The central location attracts a wide range of travelers, from business travelers to tourists visiting the city for the first time.
Location
On the cross streets of 7th Avenue and 47th Street in the heart of Times Square, walking distance to many famous sites, shopping, and restaurants.
Overlooking Broadway and Times Square, Tempo is truly in the epicenter of New York City. Some rooms offer views of the famous Times Square Ball that drops every New Year’s Eve, along with the iconic bright lights of Times Square. The hotel is within steps of numerous New York City attractions, including Rockefeller Center, the Times Square TKTS stand, Ellen's Stardust Diner, and Hershey's Chocolate World. The location is within easy reach of both Grand Central (0.8 miles) and Penn Station (0.9 miles) and is under a block from a number of different subway lines, making this a great base from which to explore the entire city.
Rooms
Sleek and modern rooms offer a quiet, wellness-focused respite from the hustle and bustle of the city.
The 661 rooms at the Tempo have a sleek and minimalist design that keep the focus on the city views. Guest rooms are packed with smart features, such as shades that open and close with the touch of a button, Bluetooth-enabled mirrors in the bathroom with a built-in clock, and bedside wireless chargers. Floor-to-ceiling windows allow the views to shine, while excellent soundproofing prevents too much Times Square noise from seeping through, especially on higher floors. Even the mattresses, Sealy Accelerate models exclusive to Tempo, are designed to promote rest and recovery and are topped with cooling linens for a good night’s sleep.
Spacious (for Manhattan) bathrooms gleam with chrome fixtures, and have large showers with oversized rainfall shower heads and large bottles of Apotheke bath amenities.
There are 31 aptly named Ball Drop rooms at the Tempo, which offer close-up views of the famous Times Square Ball and cost a premium during New Year’s Eve. Other guest rooms feature city views. There are 70 ADA-compliant rooms and suites available.
Nine Wellness Rooms feature a Peloton Bike, yoga mat, and resistance bands for guests looking to keep up with their home workout routine on the road, no matter what time of night or day they can squeeze in a workout. If you’re staying in one of the other rooms, there are plenty of Peloton bikes, treadmills, and workout equipment in the well-stocked gym.
All rooms feature the Tempo brand’s signature “Get Ready Zone” with a desk and mirror, a well-lit spot where you can get ready for the day or do some work.
Features
Skybar terrace with Times Square views, a well-stocked fitness center, and modern amenities.
With all of New York City at its feet, the Tempo keeps offerings at the hotel to a minimum—unlike many other Manhattan hotels, you won’t find a rooftop nightclub or fancy restaurant here. Instead, dining options align with the Tempo brand’s wellness positioning, featuring a Grab & Go café featuring Bluestone Lane coffee and healthy and fast options like salads and sandwiches.
Highball, housed in the same space as the Grab & Go café and located just off of the 11th floor Sky Lobby, offers small bites throughout the day. In the evening, Highball pivots into a cocktail lounge. Visitors can enjoy offerings from either dining area in the comfortable seating area, stocked with low tables and comfortable chairs, at Highball’s elegant raised bar, or outside on the terrace (which is covered in cooler weather). Guests utilize the space to relax before or after checking in and as a communal workspace.
There’s no spa or pool at the Tempo, but the gym is well-stocked with treadmills, Peloton bikes, free weights, and other exercise equipment.
