While the hotel lacks big amenities such as a restaurant and bar, it delivers on location and offers rates that are decisively lower than nearby competing hotels (the Hilton Garden Inn Tribeca and Duane Street Hotel usually cost significantly more). Rooms are small and lack panache (as well as minibars), but great restaurants and bars can be found nearby.

The cloistered lobby, awash in federal blue, is a soothing respite from the bustle of busy Chambers and West Broadway. Light gray velvet tufted benches line the hallways and a similar style sofa and a duo of cream-colored chairs finished with nail-head trim surround a mercury glass table set with a perfect white orchid. The lobby walls showcase vintage photographs depicting the history of the neighborhood while the latest technology is showcased at the nearby business station, outfitted with sleek desks and two oversized iMacs.Guests, mostly tourists and a smattering of businesspeople, meander in and out of both exits and into the low-lit space, stopping to check email and Google maps at the computers and to chat with the helpful front desk staff for advice on what to do and where to dine. A framed flyer lists the daily walking tours offered at the six Triumph hotels throughout the city, offering guests the chance to explore a variety of neighborhoods.

The Cosmopolitan's 131 rooms vary in size and shape, ranging from tiny spaces with barely enough room to squeeze between the wall and bed to good-size rooms with two beds and exposed brick-walls with original (non-working) fireplaces. Tall ceilings are centered by ceiling fans and trimmed with dark wood molding. The light blond furniture, including desks, side tables, headboards, and armoires (instead of closets), shows some signs of wear and tear. The rooms lack expected amenities found at other hotels in this class such as coffeemakers and minibars or mini-fridges.The overall color palette of the rooms is somewhat autumnal with pale gold window treatments and accent pillows in shades of gold, rust, and pumpkin. Modern touches include wall-mounted flat-screen TVs, safes, and iPod docking stations.The renovated bathrooms (in some rooms) are sleek and stylish, featuring chrome fixtures, subway tile floors, and large vessel sinks set in dark wood vanities. The walls of the bathrooms and showers are finished in gleaming white subway tiles and glass tiles in rich hues of blue and brown. Other niceties include oversized showerheads, glass shower doors, C.O. Bigelow Apothecaries bath amenities, and thick, bright white Frette towels, an amenity usually found at pricier hotels.

Originally built in 1838 as a Gothic Revival structure, the property lacks major amenities such as restaurant, bar, and meeting facilities found at better-equipped hotels, yet guests don't have to venture far to find services.There's a Starbucks next door or guests can walk the extra blocks to Laughing Man, the world-conscious coffee shop co-founded by Hugh Jackman. The celebrity-rich neighborhood of Tribeca is flush with historic and notable restaurants such as Tiny's (1810), the Odeon, Bouley, and Nobu.There's not much on-site, aside from a computer station in the lobby and a small (but decently equipped) windowless gym.
