Bottom Line

This 321-room hotel downtown Brooklyn hotel offers all the creature comforts one would expect from a Sheraton: business and meeting facilities, a rooftop pool and hot tub, and a fitness center. Though the rooms are dull in appearance, they're spacious for New York standards and come with comfy beds, coffeemakers, and free Starbucks coffee packets. Speaking of Starbucks, there is one right off of the lobby, as well as an Italian restaurant and a rooftop lounge with incredible views. Its downtown Brooklyn location means easy access to 11 subway lines and major Brooklyn attractions (including Barclays Center), but also constant construction. For a hotel with a great deal more boutique style, consider NU Hotel Brooklyn, located between downtown and the quaint Boerum Hill neighborhood.

Scene

A contemporary and comfortable alternative to pricey Manhattan hotels

The lobby of the 321-room Sheraton Brooklyn New York Hotel feels like a bustling lounge for businesspeople, thanks to neat stacks of free newspapers, flat-screen TVs airing news and talk shows; desks equipped with computers, printers, and phones; a digital concierge; and an ATM. Surprisingly warm lighting keep things from feeling too corporate, as do the blue wingback chairs and chessboard tables. Just off the lobby are a Starbucks cafe and a pubby Italian restaurant, and a staircase in the center of the lobby leads to more than 6,000 square feet of elaborate meeting spaces and ballrooms featuring ornate chandeliers and a reception area. While room decor may not be unique (this is a chain hotel, after all), visitors can count on clean and contemporary furnishings, larger-than-normal floor plans, and modern technologies.

Location

On a quiet, somewhat deserted-feeling side street in downtown Brooklyn within easy walking distance of public transit

Located in downtown Brooklyn neighborhood, this hotel sits mid-block on a quiet street just a two-minute walk from the nearest subway station (Hoyt St. Station). Also a two-minute walk away is Fulton Mall, a commercial street lined with big-box retailers and restaurants. At the end of Fulton Mall is the City Point commercial center, a super-hyped mega-development that opened in 2017 with a Target and Alamo Drafthouse movie theater. A 13-minute walk to Atlantic Terminal, a major transit hub, provides access to more subway lines for quick trips to virtually all of Manhattan's famous sites and attractions.- One-minute walk to 2 and 3 subway lines at Hoyt St. Station

  • Four-minute walk to A, C, F, and R subway lines at Jay St.-MetroTech Station
  • Six-minute walk to B, D, and Q subway lines at Dekalb Av. Station
  • Six-minute walk to A, C, and G subway lines at Hoyt-Schermerhorn Station
  • 10-minute walk to Fort Greene Park
  • 12-minute walk to Brooklyn Academy of Music
  • 16-minute walk to Barclays Center
  • 50-minute drive to JFK Airport

Rooms

Unexceptional decor but generous square footage

Sheraton Brooklyn's 321 rooms are clean and contemporary, although somewhat bland (their most eye-catching features are their red-backed desk chairs and sheer white curtains with a frothy floral design). Though they lack pizazz, the rooms are spacious by New York standards, and are equipped with large plasma flat-screen TVs, iPod-docking alarm clocks, automatic coffee machines, and free packs of Starbucks coffee. Crisp white linens cover ultra-comfortable down-filled pillows and Sheraton-brand beds. For even more space, book a one- or two-bedroom suite, which includes a separate sitting room with additional flat-screen TV. A few suites also include private terraces.Club Level rooms grant guests unlimited access to the Club Lounge, which features free daily breakfast and afternoon hors d'oeuvres, as well as free Wi-Fi, a computer and printer, ample lounge space, and 24-hour coffee and tea. Club Level rooms also include wet bars, mini-fridges, additional bath products, free bottled water, and bathrobes. Ask for a west-facing room and you'll enjoy views of the East River and maybe even a glimpse of the Statue of Liberty. Some bathrooms feature shower/tub combos and others walk-in showers, and all come with magnifying mirrors and hotel-brand toiletries. In-room Wi-Fi costs a daily fee, and the hotel can provide a limited number of mini-fridges and microwaves upon request.

Features

Indoor pool and hot tub, Italian restaurant, Starbucks, and rooftop lounge

Considering its location in downtown Brooklyn, the hotel's most notable feature are its rooftop pool and hot tub, though beware that they have limited opening hours. Nonetheless, they are rare amenities for hotels in the area. Pool towels are piled on shelves by the entrance. A bright and modern fitness center features LiftFitness cardio equipment with personal TVs, a wall-mounted flat-screen TV, exercise balls, thick foldable mats, free weights, and a multi-jungles. A water machine and free towels are provided. The Sheraton Brooklyn has two restaurants, plus a Starbucks cafe off of the lobby. The Italian Avere Ristorante is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, has a sports-bar vibe, with booth, banquette, and bar-top seating, while the rooftop Kimoto features a sleek pale-wood design, a menu of light Japanese fare, and local and imported craft beers. The glass-enclosed area offers incredible views of Brooklyn, Manhattan, and the Statue of Liberty. Room service is available from early in the morning until late at night.Below the lobby is more than 6,000 square feet of meeting and special-event space, including a flexible reception area and a banquet hall with 20-foot ceilings and a capacity of up to 170 people. Wi-Fi is free in the hotel's common areas and the lobby computers offer free internet, though fees apply for Wi-Fi in the rooms. Pets are welcome to stay with a refundable deposit, and the hotel will provide beds and treats.
