Hotel Chandler

The Hotel Chandler is a stylish and sophisticated boutique in the Flatiron district. An attention to detail, both in the hotel’s contemporary style and also in its on-site amenities, pervades throughout. The lobby features a warm color palate in hues of gold and brown. Artwork is simple but thoughtful, merging elements from vintage New York with other pieces from around the globe.

The charming Library Room includes a fireplace and flat-screen television, making it a central location for guests to converge. The Chandler Lounge, where breakfast is served daily, is also a popular spot for both guests and locals looking for a quick cup of coffee and a convenient meeting space.

Overall, the Chandler is a great pick near the Flatiron. It’s still worth comparing rates with other hotels in the area, especially the chic Roger, which is located just across the street.

Located on a quiet block in the Flatiron District, the Hotel Chandler gets points for proximity to major tourist sights -- and to some of the city’s biggest businesses. But the slightly unattractive area in the immediate vicinity clashes a tad with the hotel’s elegant vibe. Guests who look beyond this will be blocks from the Empire State Building, Penn Station, and five subway lines. For those up for a slightly longer walk, it's 20 minutes by foot to Times Square.

Rooms at the Chandler are on the small side, but they feature contemporary decor and upscale touches such as Frette linens and Molton Brown toiletries. Modern tech features include flat-screen TVs and iPod docks. Other details, such a drawer with slippers and an umbrella, are thoughtful. All rooms -- and bathrooms -- are bright and airy, though views aren’t much to speak of.

Premium Rooms are located in a separate wing of the hotel and have been more recently added to the property. Their decor is slightly more modern, and the layouts are more spacious. Guests who want to spread out and desire the most updated space will likely enjoy these rooms.

The most impressive on-site amenity is Juni -- a restaurant from two-time Michelin-starred chef Shaun Haggert. Serving contemporary American cuisine in a sophisticated setting, the restaurant attracts locals as well as guests. Breakfast is also served daily in the Chandler Lounge, located toward the back of the lobby where coffee and tea is also available free of charge throughout the day.

The Library Room is a cozy spot off the lobby with a fireplace and flat-screen television where guests choose to congregate.

Other on-site amenities include a small fitness center with several machines and a shower; it used to be a hotel room itself. The business center, located in the lobby, allows guests to check their e-mail and print boarding passes. There is only one terminal, however.
