The restaurant is open for breakfast and dinner, but not lunch, and serves burgers and brews in a kitschy, 50s-inspired atmosphere. Scene
A contemporary, clean chain hotel on the trendy Lower East Side
This bright and well-maintained Holiday Inn offers streamlined, contemporary design throughout. The lobby has light wooden floors, a long white wood front desk, and white walls, which help create an airy atmosphere. A handy automatic ticket kiosk allows guests to buy and print tickets for theaters and attractions, while a mounted TV screen displays flight information. Free newspapers and tourist brochures are available.
Location
On the slightly gritty Lower East Side, which is full of great bars and eateries -- but far from most major tourist attractions.
The Holiday Inn is located on Delancey Street, which feeds directly into the Williamsburg Bridge. The traffic is fairly heavy here, and front-facing rooms can experience noise issues. The hotel is far from tourist sights in Midtown, but the rest of the city is easily accessible via five subway lines that are within walking distance of the property. There are a few tourist sights in the neighborhood, including the Tenement Museum and Katz’s Deli, and Little Italy and Chinatown are both within walking distance. (It's a slightly longer, 20-minute walk to SoHo.) The slightly gritty Lower East Side is largely known for its great selection of bars, restaurants, and galleries, and the nightlife is incredibly popular among locals. (Expect two hour waits on weekends at some of the hippest restaurants near here.) Also, those up for a long walk can cross the bridge to trendy Williamsburg in Brooklyn for even more fantastic bars and restaurants.
Rooms
Clean-lined rooms are contemporary and functional.
Rooms at the Holiday Inn come with either a king or two double beds. All have clean-lined, contemporary design. Picture white bedding with coral bed runners, dark brown furniture, and gray carpets and accent walls. Technology includes free Wi-Fi and large flat-screen TVs with plug-and-play capabilities that allow guests to connect to laptops and music devices. Bathrooms are also modern and have generic toiletries.Front-facing rooms may be noisy due to traffic on Delancey Street, but other rooms offer gorgeous views of the downtown Manhattan’s skyline (which includes the Freedom Tower).
Features
A 50s-style diner and a small fitness center
Guests at the holiday inn have several options on-site for food and snacks. The restaurant, Retro Bar and Grill, is open for breakfast and dinner and serves kids under 10 for free. The decor is reminiscent of a 50s diner -- think Johnny Rockets -- and the menu is classic and simple. There are many other dining options in the surrounding neighborhood that offer a more authentic New York City experience, but it's nice to have something right at the hotel nonetheless. There is also a marketplace in the lobby selling snacks as well as hot and cold beverages.Other notable features include a business center off the lobby, featuring two computer stations, and a small windowless fitness center in the basement. There are a few cardio machines, free weights, and a water cooler. There is also a meeting room on-site and an outdoor courtyard off the lobby where guests can bring their coffee. Wi-Fi is free and available throughout the hotel.
