Pros
- 37-inch flat-screens and iPod docks in rooms
- Excellent restaurant and rooftop bar
- 24-hour gym and business center
- 24-hour room service from Rare Bar & Grill
- 275-300 square foot rooms -- larger than average for New York
- Stylish lobby
- Nine subway lines nearby
Bottom Line
This 280-room Hilton in northern Chelsea shines with well-appointed rooms (Frette linens, 37-inch flat-screens, iPod docks), an excellent restaurant (Rare Bar & Grill), a rooftop bar, and 24-hour room service. It's a solid mid-range pick in a convenient (if unexciting) neighborhood, but it's rivaled by the nearby Hotel Indigo, so it's worth comparing rates.

Stylish mid-range hotel in an un-stylish neighborhood
Hilton New York Fashion District (formerly Fashion 26) is a reasonably stylish mid-range hotel in the un-stylish neighborhood of northern Chelsea. The hotel gets its name from its location -- near Fashion Avenue (a section of Seventh Avenue that's the main artery for the Garment District), and a block away from the Fashion Institute of Technology. The hotel draws its design inspiration from its location as well; the wooden slats behind the front desk, for example, are meant to resemble the weave of a piece of fabric.
With a quality American restaurant (Rare Bar & Grill) and rooftop bar (Rare View), a 24-hour fitness center, 24-hour business center, and 275-square-foot rooms outfitted with iPod docks, 37-inch flatscreen TVs, and Frette linens, Hilton New York Fashion District is easily one of the best deals in the neighborhood. Only the nearby Hotel Indigo can rival it.
Location
Located on 26th Street near Fashion Avenue (hence the name), within walking distance of nine subway lines
Hilton New York Fashion District's northern Chelsea location is a convenient starting point for tourists: Nine subway lines are within a few blocks' radius, and Penn Station and the Empire State Building are within walking distance. It's also well-located for business travelers heading to midtown corporate offices, but there's not much nearby in the way of dining or nightlife.
- Nine subway lines (1, A, C, E, F, M, N, Q, R) are within a few blocks
- 5-minute walk to Madison Square Garden and Penn Station
- 10-minute walk to the Empire State Building
- 15-minute subway ride to Times Square and the Theater District
- 20-minute subway ride to Rockefeller Center
- 20-minute subway ride to Columbus Circle and Central Park
- 25-minute walk (or 10-minute cab ride) to the Jacob K. Javits Center
- 30-minute subway ride to the ferry terminal to visit the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island
- 20-minute subway ride to the Museum of Modern Art (the MoMa) and a 35-minute subway ride to the Metropolitan Museum of Art (the Met)
