While the Hampton Inn Madison Square Garden has all the chain-hotel essentials -- free Wi-Fi; free breakfast; 24-hour fitness center; big, clean, comfortable beds -- being next to the Penn Station, Madison Square Garden, and Lincoln Tunnel traffic isn't ideal. Still, it's a well-priced home base for exploring the city's major attractions -- not its trendy bars and restaurants.
Location
Just minutes from the Empire State Building, Times Square, and a host of other tourist attractions
Though at least three blocks away from the area's major subway lines and the Empire State Building, the Hampton Inn Madison Square Garden still sees considerable taxi and tourist traffic. It's just one block east of Penn Station, where travelers come and go in droves and the block also hears significant street noise, due to Lincoln Tunnel traffic. The neighborhood itself is a bit of a no-man's land. Some New Yorkers would call it the Garment District; others would simply designate it part of Midwest West. But the distinction isn't really important -- the boundaries of Manhattan's neighborhoods are always a little fuzzy. What's important is that you're within quick walking distance of a number of popular sites, including Times Square, the Empire State Building, and Bryant Park and the New York Public Library. And of course, Madison Square Garden -- home of the New York Knicks, Rangers, and many high-profile concerts -- is only a slapshot away.- Three blocks from the B, D, F, M, N, Q, R, and W subway lines; four blocks from the 1, 2, and 3 lines as well as Penn Station; five blocks to the A, C, and E lines -- quick and easy access to all of Manhattan's neighborhoods
