Bottom Line

Located in Lower Manhattan
in the heart of the financial district, this DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel property is an upper-middle-range property that's popular with business travelers. Its 399 rooms are compact in size, but clean, tastefully decorated, and outfitted with flat-screen TVs, iPod docks, and coffeemakers. Amenities include an on-site Italian restaurant and bar, a fitness center, and a meeting room, but there are complaints of slow elevators, and Wi-Fi is only free for Hilton HHonors members (which guests can join for free). Travelers may also want to
consider the Millenium Hilton, which for similar rates, offers a 40-foot indoor
pool and impressive city views from the guest rooms.

Scene

Simple and elegant business hotel

The DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel
New York City - Financial District is located in a tall, glass building on a narrow street in the city’s financial district. The lobby area,
located on the second floor, is sleek and spacious, decorated in brown, gold,
and beige tones, with mahogany wood paneling on the walls. A collection of elegant armchairs and couches provide seating, while round turquoise planters sitting atop coffee tables add a pop of bright color and add a bit of greenery. Most of the guests staying
here during the week are business travelers visiting nearby Wall Street and companies
located in the financial district, while weekends draw many couples and leisure travelers seeking to sightsee. Travelers should note that guests complain of slow elevators, which can be a nuisance.

Location

Convenient location steps away from Wall Street and the New York Stock Exchange

The hotel is located in Lower Manhattan on the south
side of Stone Street, between Broadway and Broad Street. This is the heart of
the financial district and it’s only a five-minute walk to the New York Stock
Exchange and Wall Street. The offices of many corporate businesses are located
in the area, including JP Morgan Chase, AON, McGraw Hill, Deloitte, and the
Bank of New York. The surrounding area is busy and bustling during the day, though it empties out and can get quiet on evenings and weekends. There are many cafes, bars, pubs, and restaurants in the immediate vicinity, as well as excellent transportation links: eight MTA subway lines
(1, 2, 3, 4, 5, N, R, and Z) crisscross the area and the nearest subway
station at Whitehall Street (the N and R lines) is a one-minute walk away.- One-minute walk to the Whitehall Street subway station

Rooms

Compact, but elegant rooms with modern amenities

Rooms here are not too spacious, but
compact in size, typical for New York City business hotels. Interiors are tastefully decorated in elegant tones, including soft gray walls, gray and
gold colored curtains, striped navy blue carpets, and mahogany furniture and
wood paneling. Amenities include air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, iPod docks, coffee machines, ironing facilities, and hairdryers, but there are no mini-fridges or minibars. Junior King Suites add a bit more space, with separate
seating areas with sofa beds. Bathrooms are also small, but cheerful and modern, with spacious walk-in rainfall showers, large mirrors, rectangular vessel sinks, and Aroma Actives toiletries, though guests complain that the glass shower doors cause leakage. There have also been some complaints about noisy air-conditioning units and lack of storage space in bathrooms.

Features

On-site restaurant, fitness and business centers, and free check-in cookies

The on-site Antinori Restaurant and Bar serves Italian food for lunch and dinner, plus a breakfast buffet is available for an additional charge (included in some rates). Room service is also available. The fitness center includes cardio machines, resistance
equipment, and weights. The business center is open 24-hours and has
three computers and a free-printing service. A small adjacent boardroom seats a
maximum of eight people. Other amenities include a tiny convenience store, an
ATM, and self-parking and valet parking -- available for an extra charge. In
keeping with Hilton policies, free Wi-Fi is available only for Hilton HHonors
members, but the program is free for any guest to join. And all DoubleTree hotels offer guests a freshly baked cookie at
