Bottom Line

This small two-and-a-half pearl chain hotel in Brooklyn’s Sheepshead Bay offers 48 modern and stylish rooms with mini-fridges and coffeemakers. Amenities include a fitness center, free breakfast, and free Wi-Fi. Located directly off of the
Belt Parkway, the hotel is within an easy drive of John F. Kennedy Airport,
Coney Island, and Brighton Beach. It's considerably more affordable than
comparable properties in Manhattan, but most of New York City’s main
attractions are at least an hour away. Guests looking to be closer to Manhattan (and in a neighborhood that's trendy in its own right ) can consider the Quality Inn Long Island City, where rates are actually lower and commutes into Manhattan take 10 minutes. However, the BEST WESTERN is far more stylish.

Scene

Modern and stylish budget chain hotel

Housed in a a modern, white four-floor
building across from Sheepshead Bay, this hotel is
stylish and modern throughout. The lobby is bright and funky, with mosaic-tile designs climbing the walls in an array of colors and plenty of natural light streaming in from outside. There are couches and chairs throughout in bright colors like turquoise, and guests can often be found here on their way out to explore. Free coffee is available in the lobby throughout the day, and adds a welcoming touch to an otherwise straightforward hotel. The general atmosphere is quiet and pleasant, and guests are a mix of families, couples, and business travelers.

Location

In Brooklyn's Sheepshead Bay, near the water

The hotel is situated on a corner
across from Sheepshead Bay in Brooklyn. It's a safe area surrounded by apartments and commercial buildings, with an Italian restaurant across the street and fast food nearby. Don't think of this as hipster central, though, as those Brooklyn neighborhoods are well to the north. This is original, working-class Brooklyn all the way, and there are
several international restaurants along the bay, within a 10-minute walk of the
hotel. The B4 and B44 buses stop directly in front
of the hotel, but the nearest subway stations -- on the B and Q lines -- are at least 10 minutes from the hotel on foot and subject to weekend service changes. Coney Island and Brighton Beach are both reachable in 10 minutes by car. The big attractions
in Manhattan are about an hour away by public transit, with some variation in commutes depending on the destination. JFK Airport is a 20-minute drive from the hotel depending on road conditions and Laguardia Airport takes 40 minutes to reach without traffic.

Rooms

Clean and modern rooms with mini-fridges and coffeemakers

Each of the 48 rooms is stylish
and modern, offering either a king-size bed or two doubles with padded
headboards, plus Brooklyn-themed abstract art and colorful prints hanging on the walls. The walls and carpet are dark, and the subdued color palette includes aqua and chocolate brown, giving the rooms a sleek, executive look. Contemporary, dark wood veneer furniture has clean lines and completes the picture. All rooms come with flat-screen TVs with HBO and numerous cable
channels, mini-fridges, coffeemakers, ironing facilities, and work desks. Bathrooms are sharp as well, with gray wood countertops and gray-scale tiled accent walls plus spacious glass walk-in showers.

Features

Free breakfast, 24-hour fitness center, free Wi-Fi, and limited free parking

To round out it's above-average style, the hotel offers several features that up the value of staying here. It serves a free continental breakfast that includes yogurt, cereal, and bagels -- a perk you won't find in Midtown Manhattan -- and coffee is available throughout the day in the lobby. The breakfast room is as bright and pleasant as the rest of the hotel and is a fine place to start the day. Another extra that puts this above a city-center stay on the value scale is the hotel's free parking. Unfortunately, though, spaces are limited and it's operated on a first-come-first-served basis. There is also a small 24-hour fitness room with a small selection of modern cardio and weight machinery. An ATM is available in the lobby and Wi-Fi is free throughout the property.
