Housed in a historic building located within walking distance of both French Quarter attractions and the Central Business District, the Omni Royal Orleans is an elegant hotel that's popular with well-heeled couples, business travelers, and families. The stately lobby sets the vibe for the rest of the property, featuring crystal chandeliers, statues, ceiling moldings, and arched windows. It is busy during the day with meeting attendees and guests, but at night it feels more lively and relaxed than business-y; live piano music is offered several times a week and locals and guests alike mingle at the Rib Bar.The rooftop pool is one of the hotel's best features. It's open year-round and has water treated with salt and minerals instead of chlorine for a gentler experience on the skin. Guests can relax here with drink in hand, or enjoy the stunning views from the observation deck, located on the highest part of the building and boasting sweeping views of the city.The rooms are somewhat smaller than the average New Orleans hotel room, starting at just 120 square feet, but have attractive classic decor in different shades of brown. Most have good views and a few also have a balcony overlooking the street. Just note that some Deluxe Queen rooms have limited views, and that bathrooms are a little tight, too.

The Omni offers four room types ranging from 120 to 200 square feet, plus several larger suites of up to 800 square feet. All units are elegant, with classic decor in a subdued brown palette, and great amenities, including large flat-screen TVs with a LodgeNet system and iPod docks. Rooms come with varying views -- a few overlook a courtyard, others have street views, and yet others feature balconies overlooking the French Quarter.
