Inn on St. Peter

The Inn on St. Peter is situated on a quiet French Quarter street and housed in a barn-red building with a wraparound balcony with hanging plants and green shutters and doors. Originally constructed in 1805 with a design inspired by the Spanish architecture of the period, the building is listed on the National Register of Historic Place. Leafy, intimate courtyards are interspersed throughout the property, some reached by narrow brick alleyways, and guests gather in the courtyards at tables to chat or read a book. With its romantic atmosphere, the inn draws mostly couples. It’s very much a place for people to relax in between sightseeing jaunts and nighttime Bourbon Street revelry. 

Inn on St. Peter is in a central, but quiet location a block from Louis Armstrong Park on St. Peter Street in the French Quarter. There are numerous restaurants and shops within a short walk from the hotel, and Bourbon Street's bars and clubs are just a three-minute stroll. The St. Ann Street streetcar and N. Rampart at St Ann bus stop are three minutes on foot, so guests can easily reach points beyond by public transportation. Major attractions are a short walk away: Congo Square is a two-minute stroll, the Preservation Hall jazz venue is a three-minute walk, and Jackson Square and the 19th-century St. Louis Cathedral are five minutes on foot. Cafe du Monde, located near the Mississippi River waterfront, is a little more than a five-minute walk, and New Orleans Jazz Historical Park is 10 minutes on foot. The Mercedes-Benz Superdome is 20 minutes by streetcar. The inn is a little less than a 20-minute drive, or an hour and 10 minutes by bus from Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport. 

Guest rooms at the Inn on St. Peter have a gracious, contemporary look that's homey and inviting, done in warm hues of beige and brown. They feature dark-wood furniture, heart pine hardwood floors, comfortable beds with pillow-top mattresses, bed runners and drapes in rich, quality fabrics, and pops of color in artwork and other accents. Standard amenities are solid: expect flat-screen TVs, clock radios with mp3 players, Keurig coffeemakers, laptop-size safes, and free Wi-Fi, but rooms lack mini-fridges. Some units open to the building's wraparound balcony, and suites feature living areas with dining tables and sofa beds, and add mini-fridges. Bathrooms are elegant, with white Carrara marble and shower/tub combos, and they come with hairdryers and Aveda bath products. The inn is far enough from Bourbon Street that noise isn’t a major issue, but some rooms don’t have windows so they’re a little dark, and since the hotel is housed in an older building, they can be a bit snug. 

The drawback of staying at this small property is that amenities are extremely limited, with no breakfast or on-site restaurant. Free apples, oranges, bottled water, coffee, and tea are on offer at the 24-hour front desk. There's no public computer for guest use, but Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel. Parking (for a fee) is available at the hotel’s sister property, The Lamothe House Hotel, located about 10 minutes away by bus or streetcar, or a 15-minute walk. Travelers with limited mobility should be aware that there's no elevator, and may want to request a ground-floor room.
