Bottom Line

One of Reno's most high-end resorts, the upscale Atlantis Casino Resort Spa is located at the quieter southern end of Virginia Street and is connected to the Reno-Sparks Convention Center. The hotel includes a 60,000-square-foot casino, premium spa, two pools, and several restaurants and bars -- including the popular Atlantis Steakhouse. The 824 spacious rooms feature 42-inch flat-screen TVs and huge windows with city or mountain views. Concierge Tower rooms are especially modern, and include free breakfast. Unlike the nearby Peppermill, the Atlantis has both indoor and outdoor pools and better spa and restaurants, but the latter has a dance club and a suites-only tower.

Scene

Modern casino resort with sharp and modern style

The Atlantis Casino Resort Spa is one of the more upscale and modern casinos in Reno. It's housed in three interconnected glass towers that are brightly lit at night. The resort has a handsome aesthetic, with lots of woodwork, shades gold and brown, and a few bright tropical colors brightening up the look throughout the spacious marble lobby. The luxury spa -- a nice touch when it comes to Reno properties, and one of the Nevada's best -- features lots of cool blues and has Moorish elements, while the fine-dining steakhouse boasts a circular fish tank tower and is well-liked by locals and visitors to town. The indoor atrium pool has a greenhouse feel, with a rock wall, waterfall, and a spacious deck with plants and trees. In warmer months guests can also congregate around the seasonal outdoor pool, though of course the main draw here is the hotel's massive casino. The Atlantis tends to draw well-heeled gamblers and couples looking for a weekend getaway or spa vacation, though its location near the Reno-Sparks Convention Center also draws many convention-goers.

Location

South Reno, across the street from the convention center

Atlantis Casino Resort Spa is on South Virginia Street, the main Reno thoroughfare, though the hotel's immediate area is less crowded and just slightly removed from most of the other resorts in town. I-580 is just east of the hotel, while the Peppermill Resort is a two-minute drive away. Several other restaurants and shops are within a short walk or drive. The Reno-Sparks Convention Center is a five-minute walk from the hotel, and is directly connected to the hotel by a covered walkway. Meadowood Mall is within a three-minute drive for those needing retail therapy. Terry Lee Wells Nevada Discovery Museum and the Nevada Museum of Art are both a six-minute trip from the hotel by car. It's an eight-minute drive up Virginia Street to downtown Reno, home to the Reno Arch, Reno Aces Ballpark, Amtrak Station, Reno Events Center, National Automobile Museum, and resorts like the Silver Legacy, Circus Circus, and Eldorado. Reno-Tahoe International Airport is close by as well, just a five-minute drive from the Atlantis.

Rooms

Spacious and mostly contemporary rooms, many with mountain views

Atlantis Casino Resort Spa has 824 rooms in three towers. They come in several categories, and range from modern and high-end to slightly more dated and traditional. Rooms are spacious, starting at 375 square feet, and they are clean, quiet, and in superb condition. Floor-to-ceiling windows let in a good amount of natural light and provide nice views of the city or Sierra Nevada mountains, especially from the Concierge Tower rooms (which are on the hotel's top floors). Decor varies, but mostly handsome rooms feature wood furnishings and trim, artwork, and plush beds with Sealy pillow-top mattresses and down comforters. Rooms are done in a beige, white, and chocolate brown hues, with some rooms sporting dashes of burnt orange. Atrium Tower rooms are slightly more dated and traditional than Concierge Tower and Luxury Tower Rooms. Clean bathrooms are clad in marble, well lighted, and spacious, with ample counter space and shower/tub combos. All rooms feature safes, coffeemakers, free Wi-Fi,  iHome clock radios with iPod docks, and 42-inch flat-screen TVs with over 45 HD channels. Luxury Spa Rooms feature plush spa robes and rain sticks. Suites and Concierge Tower Rooms also feature some combination of wet bars, mini-fridges, Bose Wave radios, gaming systems, jetted tubs, personal butler service, parlors, and multiple TVs. Smoking rooms are available.
