The three-pearl Millennium Maxwell House Nashville is a full-service conference hotel with a music theme, located 10 minutes north of downtown. It has many attractive amenities, including large event spaces, a nice outdoor pool, fitness center, free downtown and airport shuttles, and two restaurants. But, its 284 rooms are in need of renovation, and many past guests have complained about housekeeping and upkeep. The rooms are still spacious and offer Keurig coffeemakers, free Wi-Fi, and room service, but only Club rooms have mini-fridges and microwaves. Rates are often lower than those typically seen in similar downtown properties, making the Millennium a viable option for travelers seeking to save a bit. For similar rates, the Clarion Hotel Nashville Downtown-Stadium is closer to downtown and within walking distance of the stadium.
Scene
A conference hotel with a large lobby that has a country music theme
This is primarily a conference hotel, but some tourists (and locals) stay here as an alternative to the (typically) pricier hotels downtown. It’s a relaxed hotel that gets especially busy when hosting events, and elevator wait times can be long. The spacious lobby has many appealing aspects, including comfy seating and a fun music theme with art posters, huge guitar sculptures, and country music memorabilia. Country music playing on the hotel sound system adds to the festive Music City theme. A wall of windows brings lots of cheerful light into part of the lobby, but it quickly disappears under dingy and unappealing drop ceilings as guests venture away from the windows.
Location
In North Nashville, about 10 minutes from downtown Nashville
The hotel is located in a mostly commercial area, set back off Rosa Parks Boulevard in Metrocenter/North Nashville. A few fast food restaurants are within walking distance, but reaching them requires walking along or crossing the busy road. Little else of interest is in the immediate area. It’s a three-minute drive to access Interstate 65 and roughly a 10-minute drive (depending on traffic) to the Nashville Convention Center and other downtown attractions. Vanderbilt University is an 11-minute drive, and it takes about 20 minutes via car or hotel shuttle to reach Nashville International Airport. The Gaylord Opryland Hotel & Convention Center also is approximately a 20-minute drive.
Rooms
Spacious but dated; with Keurig coffeemakers, free Wi-Fi, and small bathrooms
These rooms are decorated in a straightforward style that travelers who have stayed in mid-range chain hotels should find familiar. The decor is pleasant enough, but it feels dated. Walls are light yellow, and milk chocolate accent walls are behind the beds. The cranberry carpet has subtle gold accents, and the matching wood furniture has a blond finish. Art posters of country music legends decorate some walls. Plenty of light comes from generously-sized windows that offer excellent views of the Nashville skyline from some rooms. At 375 square feet, the Standard and Club Rooms have ample space. Our Club King Room included a small oval coffee table next to an armchair, as well as a spacious desk with an office chair. But, our bathroom was small and drab, with unattractive yellow tiling around the shower/tub combo. The small, black granite vanity was placed outside the bathroom adjacent to the entrance door. Keurig coffeemakers, flat screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi are standard amenities. Club Rooms add microwaves and mini-fridges. The condition of the room we saw was generally acceptable, but many past guests have reported a litany of issues with their rooms. Complaints ranged from water stains, poor housekeeping, and musty smells to moldy grout, ripped carpet, and peeling wallpaper. Rooms are generally quiet, especially those on upper floors.
Features
Free shuttle, two restaurants, outdoor pool, fitness center, event space, and free Wi-Fi and parking
The large, full-service hotel hosts many corporate meetings and social events in its conference wing that has 26,000 square feet of function space. The hotel also has a large covered area outdoor for events in nice weather. Guests with business downtown or flying out of the airport can take advantage of the hotel’s free shuttle to both destinations. There are two dining options: Pralines is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner; Maxwell’s serves an American menu with a Southern flair and features live music. It’s open from mid-afternoon to late evening. The heated outdoor pool is quite nice. It’s in a secluded and grassy area with loungers and covered tables. The fitness center has several pieces of modern cardio equipment, as well as free weights and a universal strength-training machine. The hotel has a business center with two computers and Wi-Fi is free. The gift shop sells a wide range of souvenirs and sundries. Valet dry cleaning and laundry services are available. Parking is free.
