Hotel Indigo Nashville

Scene

A mix of old and new aesthetics gives the Hotel Indigo a unique charm.

The lobby of the Hotel Indigo celebrates its historical location at the north end of Printer’s Alley, which at one point was the publishing hub of Nashville. The lobby and rooms are decorated with images of typography and the hotel has a library where guests can sit, read, or even take a book to their room. The hotel’s restaurant, The District Bar & Kitchen, decorated with “brown-bag” bottles, reflects a later part of Printer’s Alley history, when it was the center of Nashville’s nightlife, filled with clubs and speakeasies.

Despite its central location, the Hotel Indigo is fairly quiet. The hotel is pet-friendly and even has dog treats and water in its lobby, next to a small doghouse. It has a number of meeting spaces of different sizes, making a popular destination for business travelers. While the hotel has maintained a few classic details, such as the brass elevator doors and the still-functioning mail chute, overall the space has a modern, stylish feel, with a vibrant color palate that includes purples, greens, and yellows.

Rooms

Spacious rooms with quirky, colorful style

The rooms have dark-stained hardwood floors and colorful furniture, which distinguishes them from blander chain hotels in this price range. Some have large photographic murals of printing press letters behind the padded maroon headboards, and red accent pillows pop against the white bedding. The rooms are spacious and include 32-inch flat screen TVs, a Keurig single-cup coffeemaker, and both wired and wireless internet. The closets are a bit small, and the modern bathrooms have Aveda bath products as well as walk-in showers; these look a bit sleeker than shower/tub combos, though some may miss having a tub option. The property is nonsmoking, so there’s no fear of getting an ashy-smelling room. Some rooms have unappealing views of the parking deck next door.

The lobby’s library offers something extra for guests, both a place to relax and potentially some new reading material. Other distinguishing features include The District custom brand coffee, available for purchase, and an interactive media display in the lobby that gives information about the hotel and surrounding area. The District Bar and Kitchen serves upscale American cuisine for all three meals.
