Bottom Line

The three-pearl Ranch Palace Hotel is a decent mid-range option for travelers who don’t mind staying outside Naples, well west of the city center. Its 14 tidy guest rooms have dated decor, though there are a few details that add a touch of polish, and some have balconies with pleasant views. All units come with flat-screen TVs with DVD players, well-stocked minibars, safes, and free Wi-Fi, but they lack kettles. Highlights include a full-service restaurant and bar that serves a hot buffet breakfast (fee) and pizza that gets a thumbs up from guests, plus a rooftop terrace. Travelers who want accommodations closer to the city center can consider ibis Styles Napoli Garibaldi, though rooms don't have minibars or DVD players.

Scene

Small, contemporary hilltop hotel with a relaxed atmosphere

The Ranch Palace Hotel is situated on a hilltop that overlooks Naples, housed in a two-floor contemporary building on grounds with trees and a large, landscaped patio. Public spaces are somewhat dated, but there are elegant touches, with traditional wood furniture and warm gold and red accents. Guests are mainly tourists who are looking for a well-priced, quiet stay away from the hubbub of the city, and the hotel also draws a few business travelers.

Location

In a remote location near Camaldoli Park, but far from central Naples

The Ranch Palace is located west of central Naples in a somewhat remote area, so it helps to have a car while staying here. The hotel is at the north end of Parco Metropolitano Delle Colline Di Napoli park. A convenience store is next door and a few shops, restaurants, and bars are within a short walk or drive. It's roughly a 10-minute drive from to hotel the Policlinico metro station. Camaldoli Park is a three-minute drive or 15 minutes on foot, and features the Belvedere of Camaldoli, which offers superb views of Naples. But the hotel's location isn't otherwise ideal for sightseeing -- the National Archaeological Museum, Cappello Sansevero, Palace of Capodimonte, and Teatro di San Carlo opera are all about 15 to 20 minutes by car, or 25 minutes or more by metro. Naples Central Station is about a 25-minute drive from the hotel, or 30 minutes by metro. Naples International Airport is a 20-minute drive.

Rooms

Tidy with slightly dated decor, flat-screen TVs, and minibars, but no kettles

Like the hotel's public spaces, guest rooms are dated, but they have a few details that give them a classic look. Expect basic wood furniture, silver-framed mirrors, and photos of Italy on the walls. Most rooms are done in muted gold and burnt orange, and some have bedspreads in soft pink or bright red sofas. There are also furnished terraces or balconies in some units that offer pleasant views. Standard amenities include flat-screen TVs with DVD players, well-stocked minibars, safes, and free Wi-Fi, but there are no electric kettles. Junior suites and suites feature seating areas and use of loaner laptop computers. Bathrooms are basic but tidy, and contain stall showers, bidets, makeup mirrors, hairdryers, slippers, and limited toiletries. Single rooms are only 118 square feet (11 square meters), but most standard rooms are between 237 to 323 square feet (22 to 30 square meters). Junior suites and suites range from 431 to 538 square feet (40 to 50 square meters).

Features

Full-service restaurant, a rooftop terrace, and free Wi-Fi, but fee for breakfast

The Ranch Palace offers an ample hot breakfast buffet (for a fee) with standard fare, and previous guests have given it high marks for variety and quality. The restaurant serves lunch and dinner, with pizza as the standout item. There's also a cocktail bar, and room service is available. There are nice views from the rooftop terrace, which has plastic tables and chairs, and there's also a small lobby lounge with a public computer. Other amenities include a meeting room, 24-hour front desk, and free secured on-site parking. The hotel also offers airport transfer (for a fee) and a free shuttle to the nearby Policlinico metro. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout.
