Bottom Line

The mid-range ibis Styles Napoli Garibaldi is similar to the chain's other properties with its bright, colorful, and modern decor but limited facilities. There are no full restaurant or gym, but all rates include a quality continental breakfast and a bar serves coffee and cocktails. The 88 contemporary rooms are outfitted with flat-screen TVs, desks, and free Wi-Fi, but they lack mini-fridges and some guests complain of noise from adjacent train tracks. Multiple train stations are within a quick walk, as well as restaurants, though the area can look a bit sketchy. Travelers looking for a bit more romance might prefer the Hotel Piazza Bellini, which occupies a restored 16th-century palace.

Scene

Chain hotel with colorful and modern decor throughout

The ibis Styles Napoli Garibaldi is housed in a well-maintained corner building and looks, by European standards, like a standard chain hotel -- vaguely historic, gray and tan facade. However, interiors are bright and modern, with lots of plastic furniture and bright tones of yellow, green, red, and orange. The colorful decor is a bit all over the place -- there are so many striking pieces that the whole room gets drowned out in the noise -- but nonetheless welcoming. The outdoor courtyard also has colorful furniture, but it's a bit more toned-down and a pleasant spot, despite the underwhelming views of old buildings. This is a good value for the area, but best for friends, families, and couples more interested in location than on-site facilities.

Location

Four-minute walk from the city's central train station

The ibis Styles Napoli Garibaldi is located on a convenient side street and a quick four-minute walk to the city's central train station. Some guests have said that the area feels a little dodgy -- particularly at night -- but on the plus side, there's a lot of options nearby for quick, cheap eats. It's also a quick six-minute walk to the Garibaldi metro station. The Naples National Archaeological Museum is 17 minutes away by transit, while the city's historic quarter is a 20-minute walk down the city's major promenade, the Corso Umberto I. Pompeii is 30 minutes by car and about 50 minutes by bus or train. Sorrento is an hour and a half away by bus and ferry. Naples international Airport is an hour away from the hotel via buses that depart from a nearby piazza,or a 20-minute cab ride.

Rooms

Contemporary and bright rooms, though some wear in bathrooms

The 88 modern rooms are basic in amenity offerings, but they're cheerful and comfortable. The design consists of honey-tone wood furniture, striped carpeting, and white linens. Above the beds are large black-and-white prints of trees with bright lime or lemon slices in the foreground. Other neon pops of color are found in the desk chairs and plastic slabs behind the flat-screen TVs. The air-conditioned rooms come standard with queen-size beds, and guests can select from a variety of bed configurations, which is handy for families or groups of friends. Despite soundproofing, some guests have complained of noise due to proximity to the railway station. Bathrooms are a good size and have turquoise-tile floors, but some are showing wear. Shower/tub combos come with all-in-one soap dispensers. Free Wi-Fi and safes are provided, but there are no mini-fridges. Eco-friendly cleaning products are used by housekeeping.

Features

No full restaurant or gym on-site, but free breakfast and pleasant courtyard

This hotel doesn't have a lot of frills -- no gym or wellness facilities -- but on the whole, it does well with the things on offer. While there's no full restaurant, but a small lobby bar (more of a counter) adjacent to the check-in desk is open until late and all rates include breakfast. The free breakfast is simple but well-reviewed continental fare, served in a colorful and spacious dining room. Guests can also take their breakfast out to the terrace with metal tables and chairs. Wi-Fi is available throughout the property and visitors can download more than 4,500 magazines for free once they're logged on. In the lobby, there's a long communal table with a strip of outlets and ports down the middle. The hotel offers parking in a garage for a fee.
