Bottom Line

The 37-room Hotel Nuvo is an ordinary upper-middle-range property that’s modern and pleasantly designed and offers two meeting rooms, a computer corner, a small lobby bar, breakfast dining room, and a terrace that overlooks a field and smokestack. Formerly an industrial area, the location isn’t ideal for sightseeing, but nearby railway and subway stations make it easy to access the city center. Simple rooms have pleasant floral wallpaper, terra-cotta tiles, minibars, and flat-screen TVs, though noise can be an issue and not all rooms have coffee/tea facilities. As an alternative, the UNA Hotel Napoli offers rooms with kettles and a location closer to the sights, albeit in a gritty area.

Scene

Modern decor and abstract artwork in a former industrial area

Housed in a modern, clay-colored building, the Hotel Nuvo wraps around a corner where the Via Nuova Agnano and Via Diocleziano meet. The three-floor exterior is somewhat charming, with black iron balconies, but the aesthetic inside and out is not particularly exceptional. Across from the hotel are the remnants of the area’s former steel industry. An industrial plant and smokestack sit on an open field that can be seen from the hotel’s terrace. Inside, colorful artwork of the edgy, abstract variety hangs on wood-paneled walls behind the small front desk in the lobby. There's a comfortable seating area in the lobby bar, with soft gray and dark leather armchairs clustered around dark wood tables and a flat-screen TV. Shelves lined with books and pottery, along with the white marble floors and bar lend an upscale feeling to the space. The modern elevator has red walls, and an iron-railed staircase leads up from the foyer. The contemporary interiors and affordable prices make this hotel a solid option for all budget-minded travelers, and the property draws a mix of families, couples, and business travelers.

Location

On the periphery of Naples in a former industrial area

Located in Bagnoli, the hotel is outside the city center in an area that has graffiti and a lot of traffic, a former steel production zone that now attracts tourists who take leisurely walks on an industrial dock. There’s free on-site parking for guests who have cars, and taxi service to the city center or port is available through the front desk at discounted rates. The trip to the historic center -- with Gothic churches such as San Lorenzo Maggiore -- is about 30 minutes by car or an hour by metro. The Agnano railway station is in front of the hotel, and it’s a 15-minute walk to the Cavalleggeri Aosta Metro. There are pizza places within a few minutes' walk of the hotel. The Space Cinema, Zoo di Napoli, and Mostra D'Oltremare exhibition center are within 15 minutes on foot. By public transportation, it’s an hour to the Veiled Christ at the Museo Cappella Sansevero, the Teatro di San Carlo, and the Bourbon Tunnel. Pompeii is 40 minutes by car without traffic. Naples International Airport is a 20-minute drive.

Rooms

Warm, classic rooms with floral wallpaper, flat-screen TVs, and minibars

There’s a classic air in rooms thanks to terra-cotta floors, blue-and-white floral wallpaper, warm wooden furniture, and tall windows draped in beige curtains. Rooms come with French, single, double, queen, or king beds. Superior Rooms are bigger than Classic Rooms and offer kettles, slippers, and bathrobes, loveseats, and narrow balconies that, in the best case, face a field and smokestack. Deluxe Rooms have whirlpool tubs. Accessible rooms are also available. All rooms offer flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, writing desks, minibars, and safes. Bathrooms have hairdryers and narrow showers, and upgraded rooms have heated towel racks and bidets. Irons/ironing boards can be requested.

Features

Panoramic terrace, a bar, breakfast lounge, meeting rooms, and a computer corner

The pride of the Hotel Nuvo is the panoramic terrace that overlooks a smokestack on a field. The hotel plans to make the terrace open for events and cocktails. A bright, modern breakfast room decorated in contemporary artwork and red chairs serves a free breakfast buffet filled with pastries, fruit, yogurt, tea, and coffee. In the lobby is a small bar with a contemporary lounge area. Two meeting rooms -- the Ischia and Procida halls -- are bright and plain, respectively fitting a maximum of 80 and 25 people. The standard business services, meeting supplies, and audiovisual equipment can be requested. One computer on a small desk is also in the lobby. Guests have discounted rates at WeDo fitness center with an indoor pool, a 15-minute walk away at Mostra d'Oltremare.
