Fly Boutique Hotel

It's hard to miss this salmon-colored hotel, which looks impossibly narrow and is parked at the end of an old-fashioned block. At first glance, it doesn't look like much due to its dilapidated surroundings (common in Naples), but it's well-maintained facade hints at its stylish interior. The reception area is small but stylish, with a design-centric couch, large black-and-white photo, and raspberry, black, and white accents throughout that add a modern edge. Common areas are few and far between, but a standout is the rooftop terrace where guests can eat the free breakfast surrounded by views of the city. It's a good choice for tourist couples, but families may prefer a more kid-friendly hotel like the Palazzo Caracciolo Napoli MGallery by Sofitel.

Located in the midst of Naples' mazes of narrow, tiny streets, Fly Boutique hotel isn't in the prettiest of surroundings at first glance. But it's worth remembering that it is Naples, after all, and although the city is replete with faded elegance, graffiti and trash strikes aren't unusual in any area. On the whole, the area feels safe. Conveniently, the hotel is located a three-minute walk from Piazza Mercato, with cafes and restaurants (a particularly good pizza place, Pizzeria del Popolo, is located right across from it). The metro stop Porta Nolana is an eight-minute walk away from the hotel, and the historic center's museums and cathedral are 10 to 15 minutes by foot. Naples' central train station is roughly 10 minutes away by foot, and the ferry port is about a 15-minute walk from the hotel. It's about an hour and 15 minutes to Naples International Airport by public transit or 25 minutes by taxi. 

The property's 13 rooms are modern and stylish, inspired by Feng Shui principles. Black-and-white decorated rooms are said to promote introspection, while red rooms are ideal for activity and strength, and those adorned in yellow represent patience and creativity. Rooms are on the small side, which is fairly normal in Italy. Although most rooms have double beds, the Deluxe Panorama Room has a round one said to be good for relaxation. Most rooms have an unfurnished balcony with views of the city and nearby piazza. 

All rooms have an in-room safe in the open wardrobe (though it's not large enough for laptops), as well as a small minibar and flat-screen TV. Air-conditioning units are wall-mounted and remote-controlled. Bathrooms are contemporary and larger than what one might expect, equipped with a double shower, hairdryer, and toiletries. Those traveling with babies or small children should be aware that cribs and cots are available but incur a fee. 

A quality and expansive breakfast is free and starts early each morning with a spread of pastries, cold meats, and fruit upstairs in the modern rooftop dining room. Guests can also take breakfast on the adjacent terrace with gorgeous city views. Like much of Italy, there are no gym or full restaurant. However, guests can obtain lunch and dinner through the 24-hour room service. The front desk is also open 24 hours. Free, reliable Wi-Fi is provided throughout the property.
