Bottom Line

The lower-middle-range Albergo del Golfo is a boutique hotel with an ideal location in downtown Naples, with a good connection to several public transport stations. There are several dining, shopping, and nightlife spots within close walking distance and the main port is 10 minutes away on foot. The 24 rooms are spacious and simple, with flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, small balconies, and free Wi-Fi. A free breakfast buffet is served each morning, which can be eaten inside or on the lovely rooftop garden terrace. There is also a small bar, and parking is available at a nearby garage (for a fee). Scene

Simple boutique hotel with lovely rooftop garden terrace

Located on a quintessential Italian cobblestone street, Albergo del Golfo is all lovely Naples charm from the outside. The inside however, is slightly less appealing, with rather cold interiors. The lobby is bright and airy, with white walls, gray tiled floors, small (cluttered) reception desk, gray sofa chairs, and contemporary decor and light fittings. Just off the lobby is the breakfast area/bar which are both plain and simple. The breakfast area is a small room with plain white walls and a few small round tables and chairs -- with little in the way of decor. The rooftop terrace is possibly the highlight of the hotel: a lovely quaint garden with several potted plants, umbrellas, tables and chairs, and a water fountain feature. Guests can have their breakfast on the terrace in the summer months, as well as use it as a space to relax and unwind throughout the day. The atmosphere is quiet, with the hotel mostly attracting leisure travelers.

Location

Convenient location close to port, metro station, and lots of restaurants and shops

Albergo del Golfo is ideally located between the main historical center and the sea in downtown Naples, and there are several nearby public transport connections. There are ample bars, restaurants, and shops within close walking distance and the main Piazza Municipio is just a nine-minute walk from the hotel. Most major sights in the city are within a short walk: Castel Nuovo is just 11 minutes away on foot; it's a two-minute walk to the Universita Metro Station, as well as a bus stop; it's a 10-minute walk from the port, where travelers can board a ferry or hydrofoil headed to nearby islands or the Amalfi Coast. Stazione di Napoli Centrale, the main train station, is a 12-minute drive or 15 minutes on public transport. Naples International Airport is 39 minutes away by car, or 90 minutes on public transport. The hotel has an agreement with a nearby garage for guest parking.

Rooms

Simple rooms with mini-fridges, flat-screen TVs, and small balconies

The 24 guest rooms at Albergo del Golfo are spacious and simple, with slightly old-fashioned decor. The furnishings follow a no fuss theme with mustard and cream checkered tiled floors with plain white walls, mustard curtains, dark wooden furniture and headboard, and maroon-brown bedspreads. There is little in the way of decor, apart from a large dark wooden-framed mirror on the wall. Each room has a folding door opening out onto a small standing-only balcony overlooking the street below. Amenities in all units include air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, desks, telephones, safes, and free Wi-Fi. There are no in-room tea- and- coffee-making facilities available. Bathrooms are modern compared to the bedrooms, and come with walk-in showers, hairdryers, heated towel racks, and toiletries.

Features

Free buffet breakfast, bar, and free Wi-Fi

With minimum features available, Albergo del Golfo mostly relies on its central and convenient location. All rates include a typical Italian continental buffet breakfast with cold meats, cheeses, fruits, cereals, and freshly baked croissants. Breakfasts can be enjoyed in the indoor breakfast room or outside on the rooftop garden terrace. There's also a small bar with only a limited selection of drinks. A vending machine is also available in the lobby. The hotel has an agreement with a nearby garage for guest parking for a special fee. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property. The reception staff can assist with tourist information as well as tour bookings. The hotel does not have additional amenities like a swimming pool, fitness center, or any business facilities.
