Set along a seven-mile strip of white sandy beach, the 125 rooms here -- each with a kitchenette that has a coffeemaker and full-sized fridge though no stove -- are designed to hold between four and six people. The units are laid out like small condominiums, with pull-out couches and separate living rooms in most. The beach-view rooms are especially pleasant, guests say, while there are also complaints that some of the non-renovated rooms contain shabby furniture. Two heated outdoor pools, one large and one small, buffer the hotel from the beach, and the property sits within walking distance of convenience stores and restaurant options.
Scene
Families in particular favor the convenience of this beachfront hotel.
No special decor theme appears to dominate Edgewater Beach Hotel’s interior. The lobby and restaurant of this six-story yellow stucco complex have a combination of speckled epoxy and wood floors that give a certain understated, if slightly ‘80s-era, elegance. The long front desk and surrounding walls continue the simple and streamlined wooden motifs. The courtyard of the hotel, flanked on three sides by the guest-room buildings, looks out onto the beach a few yards away.
Location
Situated directly on the beach on a stretch of white sand
Location is a big draw at this property, which sits on the water. The pool area leads directly onto the strip of sand that’s part of a seven-mile-long stretch of gulf. A grocery store and several eateries, such as Caffe dell’Amore and First Watch, are within a few blocks of the hotel, which is a 15-minute drive from Naples Municipal Airport. (Transportation is available with advance notice.) Southwest Florida International Airport is about a 40-minute drive north.
Rooms
Plain apartment-style rooms with partial kitchenettes and comfortable beds
The plain, decently lit guest rooms here have wood floors in the kitchenettes and patterned wall-to-wall carpeting in the bedrooms. There’s nothing extra in terms of decoration apart from a few throw pillows on beds and light-colored wall coverings. Guests recommend requesting the upgraded rooms, as some spaces are showing wear and tear. All units have private balconies, flat-screen TVs in both living rooms and bedrooms, iPod docking stations, and sleeper sofas. Kitchenettes have dining areas with four chairs, full-sized fridges, microwaves, and coffeemakers, though no stoves. Some of the second bedrooms in the larger suites may not have a window. Bathrooms have full tubs and glassed-in stall showers with rain showerheads.
Features
Two pools, a fitness center, and a restaurant that gets favorable reviews
The Edgewater's sizable fitness center has treadmills, nautilus machines, and stationary bikes as well as free weights and weight machines. The hotel maintains a beach area with padded lounge chairs and umbrellas, as well as two heated outdoor pools. The restaurant Coast, with its patio overlooking the pool and emphasis on international coastal cuisine, generally receives high marks from guests. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are available. The property’s Pool Bar specializes in handcrafted cocktails and frozen drinks while serving fare from the main restaurant’s kitchen. The Edgewater also has significant space set aside for meetings and special events.
