Scene

Casual hotel that’s popular with tour groups

Given its location in seaside Mystic off Interstate
95, this casual hotel is a stopover for tour groups, couples, and families making their way around New England. With meeting
space and several corporate offices nearby, it also sees its share of business
travelers. The hotel seems designed to accommodate travelers on the go, with its open lobby leading to a limited-service restaurant operating 24/7 and a circular, granite-topped
bar with seating. The lobby has several cozy areas where  guests can eat, drink, or relax under soft lighting from hanging lamps. Dark-wood framing adds a classic, upscale touch to the space.

Location

Near Mystic River and I-95, within walking distance to many area attractions

Off I-95, the Hyatt Place is in a quiet corner of Mystic, adjacent to
a large cemetery that runs along the scenic Mystic River. Many of the area’s
top attractions are within walking distance of the hotel, including Olde Mistick Village
(seven minutes), Mystic Aquarium (12 minutes), Mystic Luxury
Cinemas (six minutes), and Mystic Seaport (13 minutes). Several restaurants and
shops are within a three- to five-minute walk as well. Other local landmarks include the U.S. Coast Guard Academy (a 13-minute drive),
Mohegan Sun Casino (about a half-hour drive), Foxwoods Resort Casino (a 15- to 20-minute drive),
Mystic River State Boat Launch (a six-minute drive), Misquamicut State Beach (25
minutes), and Bluff Point State Park (16 minutes). Hartford and Providence airports
are about an hour's drive, while the Mystic Amtrak station is five minutes
away by shuttle or car.

Rooms

Clean and spacious with sofa beds, mini-fridges, microwaves, coffeemakers, and free Wi-Fi

The Hyatt's 79 rooms were renovated in 2014, and are clean and well
maintained. Standard king and two-double-bed rooms include separate sitting areas with L-shaped sleeper
sofas, brown-leather ottomans, desks with leather office chairs, and black-granite-topped wet bars with mini-fridges, sinks, and single-serve coffeemakers. The sofa and carpeting in brownish gray pair well with the reddish-brown furniture including headboards, nightstands, desks, and side
tables. Black granite-topped vanity-dresser combos are well-lit and positioned outside the bathrooms. Walls are off white and drapes are light gray. Tan-tile bathrooms are somewhat small and dimly lit. They include either shower/tub combos or walk-in showers. Contemporary art adds splashes of color to the bathrooms and sitting
areas. All rooms feature 42-inch flat-screen TVs with media plug-in panels, and room
service and free Wi-Fi are available. Some rooms have lovely views of the wooded areas
surrounding the property.

Features

Concierge, free shuttle service, heated outdoor pool, free Wi-Fi, free parking, free breakfast

Parking is free at the hotel’s on-site lot. The hotel
operates a free shuttle service within a five-mile radius, as well as a
fee-based shuttle to the Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods casinos. Food service
consists of a 24-hour bistro-style restaurant with a limited menu -- it serves a free hot breakfast buffet, and made-to-order pizzas, flatbreads, and entrees at other times, with to-go items as well. The bar also functions as a
coffee shop, with Starbucks in the morning and cocktails in the
afternoon and evening. The
24-hour fitness center is small but has a few cardio machines and free weights. A heated outdoor pool is open seasonally.
The hotel has 752 square feet of meeting space and a 24-hour business center with
two computer stations with Internet access and remote printing capabilities
from guest rooms. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout. Concierge
services and valet laundry and dry cleaning services are offered, and there are also self-serve laundry
facilities on site. Pets are welcome in select rooms for a fee.
