Bottom Line

The upper-middle-range Hilton Mystic has modern nautical designs inspired by the seaport, and a location across from the Mystic Aquarium. The entire hotel was remodeled in 2015 to include a stylish bar and restaurant, plus chic glass fireplaces on the outdoor terrace. Natural light fills the indoor pool and the gym is modernly equipped with Precor cardio machines. Gray interior design schemes create a modern feel in the 182 rooms, which offer mini-fridges, coffeemakers, and in the suites, whirlpool tubs. In addition to tourists, many business travelers stay here to use the hotel’s multiple conference spaces, including ballrooms; they'll likely also find the 24-hour business center and 24-hour market convenient. Pets, however, aren’t allowed, unlike at the nearby Hyatt Place Mystic.

Scene

Nautical design and more style than the average chain hotel

The design scheme in the remodeled Hilton Mystic is sophisticated with a maritime feel that was inspired by the Mystic Seaport’s brick mills. The Hilton Mystic completed an eight-million dollar renovation in 2015 to its common areas, rooms, pool, meeting spaces, and other facilities. The brick four-floor exterior of the hotel features green window trim. Industrial interior designs create a hip atmosphere in the lobby, which features lighted letters that spell out Mystic on the pillar dividing two reception desks. Historic photos and porthole windows line the hallway. A terrace attached to Irons bar and restaurant is set with stylish striped sofas and glass fireplaces under strings of lights crisscrossing the ceiling. The location across from Mystic Aquarium attracts mostly tourists. Business travelers also stay at the Hilton Mystic, to take advantage of the meeting facilities, 24-hour market, and 24-hour business center.

Location

On Coogan Boulevard, a close walk to the Mystic Aquarium

The Hilton has a great location for tourists as the Mystic Aquarium is across the street and Olde Mistick Village is three minutes away on foot. The drive to the Mystic Seaport, which is surrounded by museums, takes three minutes. Downtown Mystic’s bars, restaurants, and art galleries are a 10-minute drive. Mystic Pizza, which inspired the 1988 Julia Roberts movie by the same name, is a five-minute drive. Travelers can hop on the free shuttle from the hotel that goes within a five-mile radius, if they don't want to drive. The shuttle also goes to Mohegan Sun Casino and Foxwoods Resort Casino for an additional fee. The I-95 is three miles from the hotel and it’s a five-minute drive to the Mystic Amtrak Station. The Bradley International Airport is over one hour by car and Groton New London Airport is 15 minutes away. Outdoor parking is free for guests at the hotel.

Rooms

Modern rooms feature desks, coffeemakers, and mini-fridges

Renovated in 2015 as part of a total hotel overhaul, each of the 182 rooms is modern, and furnished with stone-topped furniture: wooden desks, tables, and dressers. There’s a stylish vibe thanks to gray-toned textiles, contemporary wingback chairs, carpeting, and tiles in entryways. Rooms have one king bed or two double beds and additional sofa beds are provided in suites. Contemporary artwork hangs in bathrooms and rooms.Suites have whirlpool tubs and heated towel racks in bathrooms. Otherwise, most bathrooms offer lighted mirrors and shower/tub combos; ADA compliant rooms have roll-in showers and accessible bathtubs. All rooms come standard with flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, Cuisinart coffeemakers, minibars, hairdryers, and irons. Rollaway beds can be requested. Pets -- aside from registered service animals -- aren’t allowed.

Features

American restaurant and bar, an indoor pool, fitness center, on-site market, business corner, and conference space

The hotel’s features are particularly stylish. Irons restaurant and bar -- with a nice range of beer on tap and burgers like the Shipbuilder -- features steel gray booths, a sofa by a fireplace, additional terrace seating, and occasional live entertainment. Breakfast buffet is available, but past guests have complained that it's not quite substantial. A skylight provides a bright atmosphere for a swim in the heated pool set with dining tables and lounge chairs on the deck. The gym offers modern Precor machines -- treadmills, elliptical machines, and bicycles -- as well as free weights. The 24-hour facilities at this hotel appeal to busy guests with a market that has a microwave and ATM. Also open around the clock is the business center with two computers, and Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel. There’s over 6,396 square feet of modern meeting space, with six conference rooms, including a grand ballroom for banquets of up to 300 people.
