Bottom Line

Wyndham Vacation Resorts Towers on the Grove is a mostly generic mid-range option right on a quiet stretch of North Myrtle Beach. Its 232 suites are individually owned time-share apartments, and can include multiple bedrooms, laundry facilities, full kitchens, and ocean views. They can also include maintenance and cleanliness problems. There's no restaurant or breakfast served, so guests either use their kitchens or walk five minutes to a cluster of seafood restaurants and a grocery store. The beach is the main draw, but guests also enjoy the covered outdoor pool and a seasonal lazy river and waterslide. Wi-Fi and parking are both free. Past guests have complained about aggressive time-share pitches. For something with breakfast buffet and a restaurant, check rates at Crown Reef Beach Resort and Waterpark

Scene

Beach towers with time-share condos

From the outside, Wyndham Vacation Resorts has a retro vibe with soaring white exteriors accented with Art Deco architectural details. There is no seating in the reception area of the lobby, which should give you some indication that guests are only there to check-in and check-out -- that, or to rent a DVD from the kiosk. The resort is made up of time-share condos, and past guests have reported pesky time-share presentations and aggressive reps. Otherwise, guests (a mixture of families and groups) tend to stick to their condos, the pools, or the beach. Since there isn't a restaurant or bar, there's little socializing.

Location

On a quiet stretch of North Myrtle Beach

Wyndham Vacation Resorts Towers on the Grove is right on a quiet stretch of North Myrtle Beach, and many restaurants and shops (IGA grocery store, seafood restaurant, pizza joint, and liquor store) are within an eight-minute walk. Larger tourist attractions require a car to reach. It's 16 minutes to the House of Blues Myrtle Beach, 23 minutes to The Carolina Opry, and 30 minutes to the SkyWheel. Myrtle Beach International Airport is about a half-hour drive from the hotel.

Rooms

Range of individually owned and contemporary time-share condos

The condos are individually owned, but have a common contemporary design scheme that's pleasant and features tones of blue and green. The smallest option at 240-square-feet is the Studio, for two people. The largest unit is the Three-Bedroom Deluxe Ocean Front at 1,300-square-feet, for up to 10 people. All condos include free Wi-Fi, at least one flat-screen TV, air-conditioning, and safes. Full kitchens feature stoves, refrigerators, microwaves, sinks, dishwashers, coffeemakers, and complete sets of cutlery and dishware. Some condos have laundry facilities and whirlpool tubs. Furnished balconies either overlook the ocean or the street. Note that past guests have reported inconsistent housekeeping and maintenance issues.

Features

Covered pool, seasonal lazy river, beach access, and free parking

Features are focused on the outdoors. There's a covered pool and large whirlpool that are open year round, and they're located just behind the seasonal lazy river with a waterfall feature. A waterslide and an outdoor whirlpool offer a few more areas to play. The outdoor pools overlook the beach, which is easily accessed on foot. Like all Myrtle Beach beaches, the sand is public and visitors can rent chairs and water sports activities. Back at the resort, there's a small fitness center with some free weights and dated Cybex cardio machines. Wi-Fi is free throughout the resort and there's a small business center with desktop computers. Parking is free.
