Blue and green are featured throughout the pet-friendly hotel, everywhere from the lobby to the rooms and even on the lounge chairs outside. The lobby has a seaside vibe with starfish, nets, and coral as decor. Outside, lounge chairs are lined up on the stone deck around the pool, and tables with green chairs and matching umbrellas provide additional seating. Nearby palm trees add to the picturesque view of the ocean. Just beyond the parking lot is a flat, sandy beach. The hotel is popular with families with pets and it's not uncommon to see dogs staying at the hotel. The nearby playground with swings and a climbing structure with slides makes it a good choice for families traveling with young children, too.

The hotel sits on a curved corner of Ocean Boulevard near other hotels at the north end of the strip lining the beach. Pine Lakes Golf Course is nearby, and there are several restaurants within a short drive that serve fondue, pizza, and Italian cuisine. Broadway at the Beach is less than a 10-minute drive, and the airport is less than a 15-minute drive away.

Rooms at the Mermaid Inn have bright-blue and lime-green walls and green curtains. White headboards and bedding stand out against the colorful space. Brown sofas or upholstered chairs provide extra seating. All rooms have mini-fridges, microwaves, coffeemakers, 42-inch flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi. Some also have views of the ocean. Bathrooms have dated countertops, and some have a musty smell. Past guests have complained that the tile floors are in need of a scrub.
