Spanning several street blocks in South Myrtle Beach, the Sea Mist Oceanfront Resort is a huge mid-range option with loads of family-friendly features, a massive amount of rooms, and unfortunately: some problems. Occupying 20 buildings that could use a refresh, all 781 spacious rooms come with kitchenettes, flat-screen TVs, and coffeemakers (but no coffee). Some rooms are located oceanfront while others are about a five-minute walk away. The lively resort features 16 pools or hot tubs, a massive water park, and a kids' wading pool. There are five restaurants and bars, though some are seasonal. Major downsides include fees for the water park, lack of pool towels, and housekeeping issues. Travelers looking for a little more quiet during their vacation should consider Hampton Inn Broadway at the Beach, which has a quieter vibe.
Scene
Lively mega-resort with dated interiors and almost non-stop activity
The bustling, family-friendly Sea Mist Oceanfront resort consists of over 20 buildings, and most of them are pretty dated both inside and out, though they are maintained. The large lobby is painted in tones of white, peach, and brown. Palm tree patterned carpet and four wicker armchairs add a little panache, but this is clearly just a space for doing business and moving on. The expansive resort is busy from morning into the night with the bulk of the activity (and noise) in the kids' areas: Wahoo Water Park, Castle in the Mist, and Wet Willie’s Wading Pool. Families are the main clientele here because of the location and the multitude of kid-friendly activities. With a few beachside bars, expect to see some couples as well.
