The Royal Garden Resort is a
value condo community on the beach. Brookgreen Gardens, the Pier at Garden
City, and restaurants are less than a 10-minute drive away. The resort's 140 individually owned
units have fully equipped kitchens, air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, and
balconies with awesome ocean views. However, they are small with worn
furniture and outdated decor. There's also an outdoor pool with a hot tub that looks out on the beach, while the indoor area has a pool, a kids' pool, a hot tub, and a sauna. Sand Bar, the on-site restaurant, sits next to the pool and serves
American food plus drinks. There's also a game room with arcade machines and
pool tables as well as a fitness center, though it’s only available for owners. Free
Wi-Fi is available throughout and there is parking, but spaces are small and
the lot is dimly lit.
Scene
Outdated but reasonably priced condo hotel in need of a refresh
A large lobby area offers plush seating
as well as a relaxed atmosphere typical of a vacation hotel. Brown tile and yellow walls
cover the area, which is spruced up with potted plants, and there is a gumball machine and an ATM.
Sand Bar, the on-site restaurant, has a beach theme, with tropical colors,
strings of Christmas lights, and nautical items posted on the walls. Metal folding
chairs and gray banquet chairs decorate the space. However, the restaurant
could use an updating, and the mismatched seating and yellow lighting in the
lobby give it a dated style. In fact, many of the furnishings in the common areas look old.
Location
Residential beachfront location, with attractions and restaurants less than 15 minutes away
The Royal Garden Resort is on the beach
near Murrells inlet in a residential area. The Pier at Garden City and a number of restaurants are within walking distance, while Hudson’s Surfside Flea Market and Myrtle Beach State Park are less than a 10-minute drive away. The Myrtle
Beach International Airport and Brookgreen Gardens are around 15 minutes by car from
the hotel, and Broadway at the Beach and Ripley’s Aquarium are a
20-minute drive away.
Rooms
Small rooms with varying decor, all with full kitchens as well as balconies with ocean views
As the units are individually owned, they vary in both decor and cleanliness. Some have mismatched and/or worn furniture and carpets and outdated kitchen appliances. All have fully equipped kitchens with dishwashers and coffeemakers, as well as air-conditioning and flat-screen TVs. Stackable washer/dryers sit in closets next to
the kitchens. Floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors
offer natural light and all units have balconies with seating and wonderful ocean views. Wallpapered bathrooms have brown tile and shower/tub combos. Some units have second bathrooms with lots of counter space, while others have only pedestal sinks.
Bar soap is provided, but guests should plan to pack other toiletries.
Features
Outdoor and indoor pools plus restaurant, game room, parking, and free Wi-Fi
The outdoor pool sits on a large ocean-facing deck alongside a hot tub and a lounge area for sunbathers. There's also an indoor pool with atrium-style skylights plus a kids' pool, a hot tub, and a sauna. Next to the outdoor pool, Sand Bar offers drinks and American cuisine. The property also has a picnic area with barbecue grills, a game room with pool tables,
air hockey, and several arcade games, and while there is a
fitness center, only owners are allowed to use it. The hotel offers free Wi-Fi, concierge services, and coin-operated laundry facilities along with free parking in a dimly lit garage with small spaces.
